I mean, a human cut & pasting, and an AI guided by a human is kinda blurry at this point.

Eh, I assume you've seen the Mission Impossible movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman? Remember the scene where Cruise forces him to read a few lines from a business card and that's enough for them to clone Hoffman's voice? The cheap AI software out there can do that now. Yes, you have to read specified phrases in order for it to capture and duplicate your voice, and no, it isn't 100% perfect, but in many, many cases, it's close enough that you'll have a hard time sorting it out from the real voice. With the expensive stuff? You feed it just a few minutes of anything with a person's voice, and it can duplicate it with the same level of quality as the cheap stuff can.

Remember the Mandalorian season two when they had Luke Skywalker speak or when they did Vader in Obiwan?

You throw enough money at anything, and you can do it fairly well. Skip to the about the 30-second mark, and you'll see what they could do over a decade ago.

So I have started going through justice league and justice league unlimited on netflix. I ended up missing these because I hjad fallen out of ability to watch series and purchasing wasn't an option because I was spending thousands on anime series. OMG having to buy VHS and DVDs was expensive. I was also into paintball, roleplaying, and computers at the time. Setting UP my PC lab and studying for my MCSE also took a good chunk of money. That and I was traveling a lot also.

I ditched things like this. I really did not care much for batman so I was not bothering with this for a reason.

I would have loved these things back in high school. Oh to have more than just batman and some decent storylines. I still prefer anime, but these have some interesting characters. If I had known Hawk Girl and Wonder Woman were so interesting I might have tried harder. Then again, you cannot really beat Line Inverse or the fun of CLAMP with this.

Maybe @Diacanu or someone will give me the titles of some of the more decent movies and series.

The style is worthwhile and I do enjoy it. I end up preferring the way the ideas presented from the anime style. There are similar concepts that come across, but there is a difference in how they are spelled out.

I also have to say anime does better on the super league sort of thing. I am not a Naruto fan because I hate Naruto, Sasuke, and the pink haired girl. How the fuck did they make me hate the pink haired one I do not know. However, it does develop the characters with a bit more love and hype than DC and other animated series IMO. My Hero Academia is an interesting sort of Justice league universe with so much more depth and grit than these series lay out. They also have a graphic novel background which is richer than the animated series.

I will have more to say in the next few weeks as I try to absorb more of the DCAU.

My biggest problem with this animated universe continues to be the convenient power level. Here is where I need to bring in My Hero Academia. In both series you have heroes of varying skills and powers. In MHA they do a much better job of dealing with that.

For instance can superman take hits from gods and fight back, or does a simple laser, explosion, or electric shock cause him to be knocked out? The same can be said for Wonder Woman who seems to be as strong as superman when she is fighting, and then other times some dude could smack her and she falls down because the writers need her out of the action for a few moments while someone else does something. Does the Flash have super strength, or doesn't he?

I get used to poor writing, but in this case it seems to be glaring. Sometimes the B-team can be off doing other things and it isn't a joke. For instance the episode of the greatest story never told where the hero from the future is put on crowd control and ends up having to deal with some black hole run out of control while the rest of the people dealt with the bigger enemy. It is treated as a joke. In MHA saving the people is given a heroic look that makes the big guns seem to need the lesser utility heroes. It offers up a great way for the lesser heroes to show their worth rather than just putting them in a position to take shots that would hurt the more powerful characters, and then not kill them.

This does not include the movies so much as some of them will use the lesser characters and kill them off or do really brutal things to them.

Maybe superman is too OP, and it becomes really obvious that superman's powers are really not consistent at all.

    Uh, no.

The Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian was a fucking abortion, especially when they went full-CGI on both the actor and voice in the latest season.

Hollywood still has a long way to go in this regard.

OK, so I get up to the monkey city episode of justice league and the random power level thing is turned up to 11. Are there any rules aside from by the moment power abilities? Green lantern is only useful when the plot says he is useful. What are Marvion the Martian's powers aside from going through things? Do all of them have indestructible bodies, or do they just get hurt when the plot wants them to get hurt? Why does flash have trouble catching up to a box truck? My car can go that fast.

Powers need some form of consistency.

Jon's power set is, if we were using them consistantly, the best spectrum of powers in DC comics (short, I suppose, of powerful magic users)
Super-strength (I don't think it's establish if it's on Kal or Diana's level but at least in her range)
    Flight
    Telepathy
Phasing (which may or may not amount to invisibility)
Near-invulnerability - but I've never seen it defined as to HOW near.

Supposed weakness is fire but lately that's been retconned to an uncontrollable terror of flames rather than actual vulnerability.

Green Lantern should have a very broad range of powers, but they toned it down for the JLU cartoons. They also went with Jon Stewart as the GL, which yay diversity but his character is ex-military, very direct. The ring can be showier about its effects than Jon tends to be - he'll just fire an energy blast where the more imaginative and artistic Kyle Raynor would summon a giant mecha construct or Godzilla to attack foes.

The ring has a quantum-realm prison planet the GL can shrink and suck the bad-guys into.
Why he doesn't put every criminal on Earth there, and create utopia is a plot hole you can fly the Enterprise-D through.

The trouble with the Justice League in both the cartoon and elsewhere is that it is rare that a single foe or set of foes could really be up to the collective level of their powers if allowed to be expressed to their full extent.

It should be pretty impossible for most foes in a fight to beat the collective powerset of: 1. three super-strong and mostly invulnerable people 2. at least two people with superspeed, one of which is on a ludicrous level 3. a person who is a telepath and can read others' thoughts and communicate with the others 4. a person who can make concrete anything he pictures in his mind and who has access to an intergalactic database 5. at least two members who can fire long-range energy blasts 6. six people capable of unassisted flight.

So pretty much everyone who has powers (sorry Bats and Hawks) has to be nerfed routinely.

OK, what is the death toll in this universe? You are just sitting in your appartment or office on the 10th floor doing yout thing and then you see a red streak run by your window, you wonder what the fuck that was, and then a laser blows your window into your face. Superman could go flying into your place. You are driving home from work over the bridge and it collapses.

I have watched multiple scenes of bridges collapsing and I swear Superman or WW saves one care while the rest of the people fall into the water and die, and the show portrays that shit as heroic. At one point the flash wonders where all the people in the city are, and I am thinking it is a city with a superhoro in it, they all left for a safe place dumbass. I would never go into a city again in this world.

The only great thing about the cities is their repair crews. Superman or WW tears shit out of a road and misiles blow holes in the streets and next thing you know it is all clear. You know it is all new because there aren't even cracks in the sidewalk because they never get time to develop before they have to be rebuilt.

What is car insurance like? Cars are just cushions for the heroes, or something to throw at each other. Do I have to have collision or special super hero insurance to get my car paid for when WW chooses to land on the fucker? They do not even check if some poor mother is hiding inside with her baby before they pitch her minivan at the bad guy.

At least Disney had some humor about this and sent a guy with a pie bazooka after goliath for repeatedly fucking up his life. Like for some reason luch had it that every time the gargoyls fucked up something this guy was the one who got hit. Shit, lex luther isn't the fucking villain. He is humanity's only hope against these freaks.

The latest season of MHA made sense when the heroes fucked up and ended up destroying multiple cities because of their failed offensive against the bad guys so the humans started giving their anti-quirk weapons to the regular people and made all quirks the enemy of the people. At what point in time does Lexcorp start giving regular people anti-superhero weapons to defend their cities against the heroes who destroy more shit than the bad guys do?

    DUH! That's the main one!

I was looking at that list before I clicked "reply" thinking "something looks wrong here" but couldn't figure it out.

Anyway, give me the full power set of any DC character, it would be a Martian.

Just got caught up with My Adventures with Superman.

It makes me wonder: why is it that Animated DC is almost non-stop bangers, but the DC main universe and most film versions are typically just mediocre? With the exception of Superman I and II, Batman 89, the Nolan Bat-trilogy the Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, pretty much every other DC film has been less than it should have been.

Good films, but highly overrated and unnecessary IMO. I bet the only reason both of those were greenlit was because the DCEU was already taking a giant shit at the box office.

I meant to include The Batman. but brain-froze. I excluded The Joker because while it has its merits, it IMO strays too far from "comic book movie" to count for this discussion.
