You big dummy, the civil war didn't just spring up out of nowhere. People didn't just say, "hey, you know what, we should attack Fort Sumpter." No, it began with rumblings and discourse a decade earlier, just like the revolution.

In fact going back to before the Revolution there were arguments over slavery and ending it. (The first protest against slavery in the colonies took place in 1688)

So Federal Farmers point stands. There was a build up to the Civil War.

Some say we are in a new build up to a new Civil War. It's just a matter of finding the that trigger where everyone says, "okay, fuck this. Hold my beer, I'm getting my gun"

With the Civil War it was essentially the election of Lincoln that was that trigger that took the fight and made it into a war.
