Why is gun control any kind of issue here at all? Didn't the gunman use a rifle? I don't know of any actual or even suggested gun control legislation that would prevent a person from obtaining a rifle and ammunition for it.

he hated Trump, loved Bernie Sanders. Regardless, he was mentally unstable. Bernie Sanders said he was wrong to attack Republicans, and nobody thinks this guy was justified to do what he did.

While there's ample evidence to indicate that this guy was politically motivated, most assassins are not. (Most are also unsuccessful and unknown, even after they've been arrested and convicted.) Essentially, the reason folks tend to snap and start gunning down politicians or other famous people is that they want attention, and they can't find any other way of getting it, so they pick a high profile target and shoot them.

I'm guessing that not every person in attendance at this practice session was physically on the ball field at the same time. That's pretty much how baseball works. Nine guys on the field, one guy at bat, maybe a few on base, the rest on the bench or in the bullpen. All others are media, spectators, etc. Any questions?

Indeed there may not be. But the shooter did ask somebody who was involved in the practice, and when he found out they were Republicans, he opened fire shortly after. Make of that what you will.
