Dick Tracy, The Rocketeer Either of these movies worth seeing? IIRC, both were made in the mid 90s and both were intentionally designed to imitate 40s/50s styles. I never got a chance to see them before. Just wondering if they were worth watching. They kind of get left out of the list of comic to movie adaptations. Sky Captain is another one of those retro-ish movies. That worth seeing?
The Rocketeer is actually not too terrible, for being a Disney flick. Shades of Indiana Jones but not as good. JC is very, very easy to look at in this one, however, and you've got flying, fighting the Nazi's, and dirigibles. I have to give it a thumbs up on those things alone. Dick Tracy you can keep.
The Rocketeer is well worth a rental. Good popcorn flick, easy-enough suspension of disbelief, and Jennifer Connelly gives two very good reasons to watch as well. I also enjoyed Sky Captain... A little more "out there" in terms of plotline, but better effects. Another flick in a similar vein is The Shadow starring Alec Baldwin and Penelope Ann Miller. Again, easily worth a rental, like the other two. I thought that by law they collected up all copies of Dick Tracy and burned them, and then re-burned the ashes. It was that much of a stinker! Don't waste your time on it.
The Rocketeer is pretty enjoyable, not a home run but a solid double. And Jennifer Connelly is at her absolute smokin' hottest in it. Dick Tracy was kinda meh. Great art direction, though; the movie really has a terrific uniqueness in its look. And Al Pacino gets a couple of funny lines.
I understand why they changed Cliff's girlfriend's job, it's a Disney picture after all, but I wish they'd stuck with the original inventor of the rocket-pack, even if Street & Smith would've soaked them for it.
They should do a Doc Savage movie. Love the old pulp stuff. Going to have to run a RPG in that setting at some point. So many great characters. Was going to play in one once that never got off the ground. I was going to play a pastiche of the Natural (yeah, the baseball story). With just a little twist, the insane woman going around assassinating sports legends could be a catspaw for a much larger criminal conspiracy. And a guy that can throw a 100 mph fastball is pretty much never unarmed.
I have to say that I always rather enjoyed Dick Tracy - althought its been about 15 years since I last saw it.
Yes, The Rocketeer is definitely a lotta fun, especially if you're an airplane buff. There are more GeeBee Zs in the movie than actually ever existed - two! Dick Tracy is a turd. Madonna looks great, but she intentionally sings a little off key because she thinks her character would.
I think Demi's referring to the "currently in pre-production-hell" version that's been tossed around Hollywood for last eight years or so. Especially since he recognized the pic of Ron Ely as Doc right away. Believe it or not, the 'Forge has several Doc Savage fans as posters.
Indeed we do. Last I heard, the rights to Doc Savage are so snarled up at this point that a movie might never get made. Gotta echo everyone else. Dick Tracy was rubbish (tho there's a good shot of the then-younger Madonna is a see-thru top). The Rocketeer is just good fun, a great popcorn-on-a-rainy-day flick. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is sheer brilliance. Must be seen to be appreciated. It almost knocked Buckaroo Banzai out of my number-one movie spot.
Sky Captain was very enjoyable, but I thought the acting was a little lacking. But then, maybe that's how the acting was in the genre and era they were shooting for. Other than that,
