After all, he survived the assassination attempts, the embargos, the economic sanctions, and has outlasted multiple Presidents and their hostile rhetoric over the decades. And in the end, he wasn't killed, he wasn't forced out, there was no coup, he just retired due to old age and failing health. Is Castro having the last laugh?
But isn't that the point? This tinpot dictator of a poor, backward island nation survived decades of U.S. pressure and constant anti-Castro propaganda.
You need to define the word "defeat" better. It doesn't often apply very well in international affairs.
Perhaps he did come out on top. Will things change now that he's dead? Our policy to wait him has come to an end. Will anything change?
Yeah, well, the only reason anyone ever cared about him post-cold war is because of the large Cuban population in Florida. And I think that the only people who will really care that much about this news, in America, are the Cubans. For everyone else, it's a mostly academic issue.
I think you have to take it beyond mere physical survival. If his ideology lives on in Cuba in 50 years, yes, he won. If it all crumbles when he leaves power, I'd say he fought the good fight (from his POV, not mine), but his vision wasn't possible. Of course, from my POV the US didn't win, because I like many others here would have thought the world a better place if he was lined up by his own people and shot. So it goes.
So far that's what you have done. Made a statement and now are unable to back it up with even one dictator.
i would do so only to advance the conversation, not to tickle your pathetic fancy. that would require work, and you're definitly not worth that. if you really care look it up yourself now
I have this strange feeling that if the US 'really' wanted him 'dead'....they would have 'really' tried to kill him.
I don't understand why we haven't taken him out. Lets see here: A shithole half way around the world, women wear sheets, no alcohol ( ), and decaying buildings and streets full of car bombs OR Tropical paradise 90 miles off our coast, beautiful mullato women, classic spanish architecture, and streets full of priceless American automobiles. Oh, and did I mention Rum?!?!? Any candidate that proposes invading Cuba gets my vote, even if it's Zombie Hitler.
Dude, that is some weak bullshit. There are other posters here. Or do you think I am the only one who read your statement?
Tonight you go to sleep knowing you won. May the angels sing you a lullaby. rightfulownership owes you a reach around.
That country is still due for revolution. Once those people get a little freedom and a little money its going to be a domino effect. There is a tsunami of American cash that could flow into the country if things go right.
Castro got out before we could get him back for schooling our asses in every concieveable way back in 1961, so he wins. 1 to 0 2 to 0 if he really killed Kennedy.
