Sneak peek at one of the creatures for the new film. I don't know if its Jim Henson's Creature Shop that came up with it or not, but if it wasn't Henson's folks need to sue the ass of Abrams & Co, because it absolutely has the feel of a Henson muppet. (No jokes, here folks. Link goes to a video of JJ on location filming, and you see a creature walk by.) If its a CGI creation that's been added in, my hat's off to the folks that did it.

Yeah. Back to Tatooine. I hope the film doesn't spend a lot of time there.

I *never* want to see that planet again. It's been in 4 of the films; enough already. Let's go somewhere else.

I hope it's only so Luke & Leia finally find out the prequel events so they know who their mom is.
Maybe they meet Watto or something.

Tattooine's probably inevitable. You want to keep in super-familiar elements, at least for the first film, so it feels like it's part of the universe from the first six films. People want "more of the same", they'll like seeing this (especially if you trumpet how much better it'll look with modern budget and FX) and report favorably and keep giving you money. Then you can use that as a springboard into the new parts of the galaxy you want to create. I'd expect the Falcon to show up for similar reasons, or at least get mentioned. Also lightsaber and spaceship battles and nattering about the Force, but nobody's going to complain about them being included.

Why not? Can you name a single new planet introduced in the PT that stood out as being memorable in any way? At least with Tatooine it will be like visiting with a familiar old friend before moving on to new worlds.

The problem with Tatooine in the PT is that Lucas tried to turn it in to some sort of holy land. I object to this treatment of the location, but not the location itself. Whether Tatooine annoys me in Episode VII will almost certainly be based on whether Disney gives it an OT treatment or sticks with the PT version.

The Phantom Menace is not canon. It did not happen. It was just a bad dream.

That would be an interesting subject, and fun way to tell that story. I wonder, though, about the validity of the rumor. My understanding was that the side stories would not be related to the main Star Wars epic story line. A film about Bothans stealing the Death Star plans is a pretty directly related element.

I *much* prefer the "bounty hunters heist" flick idea to Young Han Solo or Yoda Begins.

That is sad news, I wanted it to be the real thing. Luke in full Jedi gear looked awesome.

Yeah, bits of it look authentic, then other bits look watery like a bad cellphone.

Well, guess we'll find out Friday.

I wasn't able to hear the audio, but if that was a fan-made trailer, my hat's off to whomever made it. I'm interested in whatever movie that is!

Yeah, that's very odd. The title cards and a couple of the effects look a little ropey. It's all a bit low key, but where did they get the footage from if it's fake?

A lot of it is CGI and some is from still pics that have already been released. It's definitely fake.

It's obviously fake -- no lens flare. :bailey:

Actually, there's lens flare on that ship's thrusters at the beginning.

I've only seen this on a small window on a laptop, but the only thing that struck me as dodgy was the light saber-wielding stormtrooper who looked very CGI. The one shot of old Luke gave me pause, too.

Usually, with fanmade trailers, I immediately notice clips from other films, but I didn't notice any obvious ones here. And the one sequence with the Millennium Falcon flying around the star destroyers looked very convincing.

But, yeah, I'm getting the vibe that it's fan-made. Still...nice job.
