They miss the point. Most people who own dualies do not tow anything. It is just to make their car bigger and obnoxiously take up more space on the road. It actually makes a lot of sense the wankpanzer people would do this.

Fiery Tesla Crash Traps And Kills Four After Electric Doors Couldn’t Open

Terrible tragedy, of course, and then you hit this nugget:
I'm sorry, but what, and I cannot emphasize this enough, THE FUCKING FUCK?????

Do you know what kind of idiocy has to be involved on the corporate end (forget the fact that this shouldn't be legal) for something like this to be part of the design? At the bare minimum, you've doubled the amount of SKUs you have to keep track of in the supply chain. Because the doors with the releases will have one SKU, while the doors without one, will have a different one. Here's an additional layer of stupidity: The two different doors may not be interchangeable, or worse. Say you're in an accident, the rear door gets ripped off, and you figure, "Well, since I've got to have it replaced, I might as well get one with the emergency release." Only to discover that because the mounting hardware is different, you can't make the swap. (Which means you've got even more parts in the supply chain to keep track of.)

The nickel, or whatever amount of money, that Musk saves by not putting an emergency release handle in the rear doors, is undoubtedly exceeded by the costs of having the two different door designs.

One of the problems with this sort of thing is that we are so used to being able to open the door we do not think about whether or not it can be opened manually.

I am glad all of this shit is coming out so I know to ask if there are manual locks on any elecvtric car I get because it seems the engineers are too fucking stupid to understand the need for these things to be obvious and present. I will not be getting a ride in any Tesla in the future. If I cannot get out of a car on my own power when it is not mangled closed, that is a big problem for me.

Have we not learned from the troubles with not having an emergency release inside of the trunk that you need these things in your car?

I would have thought manual escape doors would not have been optional on a car cabin based on safety regulations, but I guess not. Maybe the insurance companies want to get on that shit? Why would you insure a car where you cannot easily open the doors in case of power going out?

So, I mentioned in the Auto Industry thread that my Mazda broke down due to total battery failure. Once it died completely, it wasn't possible to lock the doors with the keyfob, which I assume is a safety measure to stop you being trapped inside. The boot auto-locked, which gave some peace of mind about leaving the vehicle overnight as my laptop was inside, but nothing valuable in the rest of the car.

From Googling, it looks like the manual lock is hidden inside the handle itself - as in you need to pull the handle and the lock is behind it - I actually saw this on my car the other day, but didn't seem like there was room to physically get the key past the handle and into the lock. It looks quite fiddly if you are in cold weather and numb fingers...

I doubt it's about a nickel, it's probably more about Musk just thinking everything is more awesome electronic than mechanical. He probably smiles thinking of a post-book world where the only way to get information is via cranial wifi internet access ports or something.

Don't worry, Trump is going to fix all of those nasty regulations for him. If it is not illegal then it is no problem. The US voted for it so it is now reality.

We let FF and UA vote on who should regulate the companies and they gave us Donald Trump. This is what you get when you allow the village idiot to vote on the people who will regulate things like pollution.

Maybe you should not do that. Maybe democracy or an elected representative government is not the best thing for the world. It does not matter because it is not like anyone is going to do a jan 6th sort of thing to fight pollution. There is no captain planet and the planeteers who are going to come by and stop the evil polluters with their superpowers.

Good news is god does not fix poison, and most of the universe is poison to the delicate human being.

I can see that now that he has finally exposed the source of his information as Shoe on Head. I was thinkingh it was something like the New York Post, Faux News, or maybe some newspaper about aliens and bigfoot's baby making pyramid power plants like @Steal Your Face somehow accomplishes reading.

Shoe on Head is so much more legit and I am not laughing so hard I have had to change diapers 3 times now.

I drove an electric car for the first time today.
Also I have family that has a car which shall not be named-its not the truck, but they were w/out power for a week after the storm........

I didn't mind the electric car, it was weird not hearing the motor upon start up. I will be riding in it tomorrow to go to dinner-and we have to make at least 1 stop each way to stop and charge. It would probably make it there and back, but they want to "just in case"
    And I am annoyed.
There is an option to take a gasoline vehicle-or ICE as they like to call it, but "Oh no! My car is way more comfortable" I've been bringing a blanket just to keep warm.

In a few decades I think the sheer noise of our cities will be a thing that really makes our time feel different. How quiet electric vehicle are can be solved in urban areas by more seperation of bike and pedestrian paths, but gonna be interesting seeing how it's dealt with in more rural areas.
