By that I mean violence against President Trump himself. I will freely acknowledge that people have a right to be outraged regarding the actions and rhetoric of the president and part of it might well be justified but I have concerns that the vehemence of the anti Trump rhetoric (especially on social media) is going to eventually inspire actual violence directed at the president.

And God forbid what if there was an actual, obvious assassination attempt upon President Trump? Successful? Unsuccessful? What would be the reaction to either by the American people? If unsuccessful how would President Trump react?

Probably not, as most of the more irrationally violent gun-owning Americans seem to love Trump, but I can dream. :)

Actually there were a number of plots to assassinate Hitler even prior to World War Two IIRC. Some of them not well known in the rest of the world at all. For all his evil Hitler had a real talent for personal, physical survival.

Gun's aren't the only way to hurt someone. Remember why a Secret Service agent stands behind them when they are leaning toward a crowd to shake hands. The agent holds the presidents belt to prevent him from being suddenly pulled in to the crowd.

I'm expecting (not hoping) that one of the packed house rallies that Trump loves so much will get infiltrated by some Antifa types and things will get ugly, very ugly. That would galvanize his base even further and I doubt if it would do anything to bring moderates over.

I think it would take Trump winning through some pretty direct and provable voting shenanigans for any kind of mass, violent movement to come about.

If he wins w/out pretty direct and provable voting shenanigans I don’t see any kind of mass uprising but look for the Productive states to start making serious moves towards (politically, not just economically and socially) leaving the Left Behind states.

More likely, what if he loses and refuses to acknowledge the result? He’s going to have a lot of very stupid, very angry, armed people ready to go to the mat for him.

"as most of the more irrationally violent gun-owning Americans seem to love Trump"
really now? What is your definition an irrationally violent gun-owning American? Ever read a Jail Report publication or even official crime statistics? Ever read a newspaper? Ever watch the local news on TV? Pound-for-pound the people committing gun violence are not exactly Trump lovers. I know it's a difficult concept for you to wrap your mind around. Percentages versus raw numbers and crime rates and all that can be daunting.
Hey, don't shoot the messenger! Just kidding, statistically it's unlikely.

So aside from constantly harping on "dem black peoples be violent" on WF, what are you doing about it? Oh, that's right. You're too busy taking the morbidly obese into your home and schooling them on good eating habits. How many have you housed so far?

Hopefully we don't come to that. But if a backwards, broke minority continues to lord over the forward, productive majority then eventually Atlas will shrug.

I've said it before but it bears repeating. One way or another there will have to be a serious constitutional adjustment. If current trends hold by 2040 70% of the US population will live in 15 states. That means that 70% of the US pop will be represented by 30 Senators and 30% will control 70 Senators.

That is not a sustainable division of power. And it only gets worse from there.

What we need to do is get back to the original idea from the founders that Senators represent the states and not the people in the states. We need to change it to state governors choosing the Senators for the state with advise and consent of the State Senate. While there were shenanigans in the early history of the country in choosing Senators those issues won't be a real problem today because we would change it to the governor choosing the Senator and the State Senate would vote for or against the person.

The House of Representatives represents the people. The representatives should be chosen by the people.

In which case, your example would be that 70% of the representatives would be controlled by those 15 states and the other 30% would be controlled by the other states. That also includes control of the electoral votes. Those 15 states would control the bulk of all the electoral votes.

It was a mistake to have Senators elected by the people in the state. The whole point of having a House of Representatives and a Senate being separate was to prevent what has happened now where both chambers race each other to represent the people best but in the end neither does so.

It doesn't make me laugh. What makes me laugh is how you call Trump lovers irrationally violent gun lovers, yet ignore the blatant fact that on a per capita basis people who generally hate Trump commit the most gun crime. If you have any data to dispute my claim, please share it with the class.

I do not see violence taking place against President Trump. He will leave office either in 2020 or 2024.

I do however see violence coming up for everyone else because the left has been othering people for quite a while now. Once you reach a certain point where the left stops looking at everyone not on the left as people you will get some violence.
