Do you think it's ok for people like Storm to have a platform to espouse their ideas that a specific group of people do not deserve to share the same air as others? Let alone be able to influence teens and young adults who may not have had the parental guidance to weed out those sort of ideals?

Assholism is free speech. Grow a thicker skin or avoid human contact. The only time that doesn't apply is when you cannot leave or voice your disagreement.

"Bad" speech is best countered by "good" speech.

Your "for the children" idea is just a foot in the door for people to abuse that power to elevate their own opinions and silence everyone who disagrees.

    Except that isn't what happens.

Which mistake are you making here? Assuming I don't shun human contact, or equating mildly annoyed message board posts with the lack of a thick skin?

Again, your "so much" begins and ends with posts on a message board. Do you think you might be exaggerating the significance there?

Right. Any objection. Any ridicule. Any stated refusal to comply, anything but glowing praise and enthusiastic support can be reduced to "complaining."

So to be clear if Storm wanted to come back to WF he should be allowed?

If you and Jenee are out in public and someone walked up to you both and just started yelling sexist slurs at her you think the best way to stop it would be to try and talk to the guy about how it's inappropriate?

Why not? Nobody has to read what he types. Starve someone like that of attention and they will wither up and blow away.

No, I would probably react in an unhealthy way that is likely as not to get my ass beat. In what useful way does that compare to words on a message board?

That's everyone's overplayed, go-to trump card to oppose free speech. No, offending you is in no way equivalent to shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. Nor is it equivalent to direct threats of violence, or incitement of others to commit violence. We're not going to be diluting those concepts to cover everything people don't like to hear.

Ok. How about this. You’ve heard of the AI that was online a couple years ago. Within 24 hours of going online, the AI became racist, homophobic, and … what ever other horrific thing out there.

There are too many people in the world as it is. Back in the 70s, in the states, people who were concerned about the environment and other ecological factors, decided to limit how many children they spawned. People who didn’t care, or people who followed a particular segment of christianity had an over abundance of children.

Now, it seems we have too many people who don’t care. About anything. And not enough who do.

So, there are more people on twitter and other platforms that are out there just saying hateful things and not caring about the ramifications of saying those things - and it’s not just about hurt feelings by reading something someone said. It’s about a collective energy or collective group-think. It happens.

So, a community of blue-eyed people suddenly have in their midst a brown-eyed child, and if the group think in that community is that brown eyed children are bad, how soon do you think it will take for that community to turn on the child and place the child in real harm?

For a supposed libertarian who rages about the slightest inconvenience I'd think you'd understand people being upset over things like the government moving towards ripping away their bodily autonomy.

And which will bring UA more joy?

Now, I'm not saying this scenario would happen, I'm just playing hypotheticals.
Say Musk platforms doxxers and serial killers.
Say the doxxers tell the serial killers who to kill.
How many corpses piling up would horrify Musk out of his "free speech absolutism"?
Thousands? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? An even million?
How many would it take to horrify UA into sanity?
The whole planet? The spiral arm of a galaxy?

I would’ve fired the CEO but kept the CFO on for a year or two for transitional purposes

At the end of the day Twitter is currently a shitty cesspool and will probably continue to be so

So if I joined twitter tomorrow and posted your name and home address and employer and told people you were molesting and murdering children in your basement, you'd conclude that the best course of action is... "good" speech? You'd join twitter and convince everyone that I was lying before some armed nutjob showed up on your doorstep trying to save the children? You'd battle me in the marketplace of ideas instead of trying to censor me? Or would you just ignore those tweets, since no one is forcing you to read them? :chris:
