What was the split ratio? I only kept track of how much TSLA needed to fall to to really fuck over Musk prior to the split.

This podcast episode has a good discussion on not only some of the things that Musk wants to do with Twitter but also how social networks could be structured so that users have more control over the content that they see, as well as ways to prevent censorship by various entities.

One of the things that Kevin Marks, who's the guest who joins late, is a protocol so that a person doesn't have to worry about what social network their friends are on, they'll be able to see their friends' posts on those networks (provided that the friend wants them to be shared with that individual) and their friends will be able to see their posts, even if they're not on the same social networks, or if one of them uses a different social network as their primary means of communicating than the other person.

That's where things should have gone, any maybe could have 15 years ago. However large social network companies work against that sort of access and have reduced the ability to do it over the years because their whole monetary model is based around controlling the content of a feed.

And their model is failing. Forget stock market values, user engagement is dropping dramatically across a number of platforms.

A real interesting interview with one of the first Twitter employees, not only about what happened at the start but (most interestingly) also the social media platform that he's developing (and is in public beta).

He's on for the first two hours or so, and the last 30 minutes that he's on are where he talks about the platform. To give a somewhat inaccurate view (but keeps it brief) the idea is fairly simple: You create your "universal profile," you then use that to connect to other social networks, but instead of all your data being handed over to those networks, only what you choose to hand over is given to them. Additionally, it enables you to have multiple accounts on a social network that you can tailor them individually. So, for example, you can have your "professional" account where you post all the stuff that makes you look good to employers, your "family" account, where you post just the stuff you want your family to see, your "social" account for your friends, etc. One beauty of it is that you don't have to log out of one and into another to post or see things that have been posted by those in your network.

Another really neat thing about it is if you prefer say, Facebook over other social networks, but most of your friends are on Twitter, it structures their tweets to look like FB posts to you, and any posts you make to your friends on Twitter are sent as tweets. (I'm oversimplifying here, so don't @me about interoperability issues, he provides the details on all that.) Additionally, it allows for the creation of a sub-node social network that is independent of any other platforms that you (and/or the other members of it) have total control over. The guy's based in New Zealand and one of the things that they've done is created a Maori-only sub-node. The Maoris have full control over the content, who can join, and the usual stuff that one would expect from a social network, but they are also able to use the identity they create for the sub-node as legal identification if they want. (Not merely that they're so-and-so of New Zealand, but also the Maori tribe that they belong to.) It also has offline capabilities that make it appealing for folks who live in areas where internet access is spotty. If @Asyncritus were still around, he'd probably be squealing with delight at how this could benefit people in developing countries.

Musk is supposedly finalizing the deal tomorrow - of course, he had no choice in the matter after trying to back out.

Trump is likely to make his triumphant return on the platform.

We'll see how that impacts Twitter.

Much better to enforce those Terms of Service inconsistently, with blatant political bias, right? People with opinions you don't like DESERVE to be doxxed, swatted and overtly threatened, don't they?

Thought you wanted people brought BACK? The image should be Hulk reverse-snapping the dusting.

Unless, of course, you're a hypocritical cunt who didn't think his analogy through because he has even fewer brain cells than he has working follicles or testes?

I find it interesting that CHUDs still use that crying woman as a mockery thing.
I mean, she was crying over Trump being elected, and the son of a bitch tried to overthrow the government, and exacerbated covid to the tune of a million people.
She couldn't predict it would be those exact things, but we all knew he'd be terrible, and hurt people.
If you can't cry over that shit, what can you?
Does a fucking Cenobyte have to rip you apart?
    I mean, Jesus fucking Christ.
I get you assholes hate empathy, but....Jesus fucking Christ.

She didn't know any of that, and neither did you. Her entire meltdown was likely due to him saying "they let you grab them by the pussy" and still getting elected.

And now I'm on my way to believing she is Diacanu in drag.
