No, it pissed me off that he's not locked up for negligent homicide or somesuch, and that self-absorbed assbags like him give other cyclist a bad name.

Using the adjective "entitled douchebag" before the word "cyclist" is redundant.

He should have plead self defense and then Albert would have made a half dozen threads about how the old Chinese guy deserved it. Or would he have had to shoot him for Albert to get wet and excited? :horse:

It was the same charge used against drivers. Would you prefer that cyclists face stiffer penalties than drivers?

I probably put 50 miles a week on my bike, and I've never hit or killed anyone. I'll go out of my way to avoid inconveniencing anyone else, lose precious speed and have to work harder if the alternative is an uncertain risk to other people.

I'm also not one of those ENTITLED DOUCHEBAGS who rides on the street when it can be avoided. Not until I can hold 45mph up a 30% grade, anyway. I accept longer routes that keep me on dedicated trails as long as possible. No cars, no stoplights. It's beautiful. :bittersweet:

Or, if you weren't leaping to conclusions for trolling purposes, maybe I'd prefer the penalty be stiffer for EVERYONE on the road?

So, as I said, using the adjective "entitled douchebag" before the word "cyclist" is redundant.

Huh. B/c the number of people struck and killed by automobiles is a couple thousand times higher and yet you choose this incident to share your outrage with the class. :chris:

I think it's pretty obvious that he's angry at someone being able to kill another through negligence and only get a slap on the wrist.

Actually, that's what I was going for, the rational statement, rather than your trolling title (see how well it worked to WAB's purposes). I agree, the penalty for causing somebody's death by willful negligence should be stiffer than probation and community service. The biker's blog post is bullshit. If it is a crosswalk too crowded to ride through, that condition should be evident long before you arrive at it.

I always ride with my eye toward potential hazards a few hundred feet ahead of me. I've several times avoided being hit by cars because I saw the potential for the accident before the driver committed to a course of action. And I've avoided pedestrians who suddenly stepped out in front of me because I saw them on the sidewalk before I got there. And I also understand that I'm more dangerous to a pedestrian than he is to me, just as the car is more dangerous to me than I am to it. The only time I came close to hitting a foolish pedestrian, I chose to hit the asphalt myself rather than the idiot who wandered on to the bike path right in front of me*. We all have responsibilities to each other, and the guy in the article failed.

    * Said idiot was old and likely frail, I don't know that I'd make that choice with somebody younger and more able bodied.

Because it's noteworthy for the rarity, and relevant to me personally. I'll leave the "acknowledge everything remotely related with a satisfactory display of consistent outrage" lawyerballing to petty scrotum-garglers like you and gul.

No, fuckface. The title is wholly appropriate. The fact that he was too "committed" to his speed to consider anyone around him is particularly galling, and would be the case if some motorist said the same thing, but it seems to be an attitude more pervasive among urban cyclists.

Please. Go sell your "totally sincere" act to someone who's buying bullshit today. I'm all stocked up.

Good to know that a human beings life is worth 1,000 hours of community service and 3 years probation, so long as I run them over with my bicycle.

Wonder if that would be the same if it was someone else.

I also hate how they're dressing it up like it's justified now and saying that they "need to make a clear message"

Yea. A clear message that you won't be imprisoned.... what?

in your mentally ill state, I'm sure it does appear that way. You are so virulently individualist, that it actually hurts when somebody agrees. You need to be the only one who sees your version of the world, so your brain plays tricks on you. Does your insurance cover mental health services?

Man, if this was someone in a car I think you'd see a completely different, more harsh sentence.

I doubt it. Isn't California one of those "pedestrians have absolute right of way, motorists are baby-killing nazis" states, with actual "illegal alien crossing" signs along the road? I'm sure they're conflicted. On one hand, bicycling earns you the "fashionably smug enviro-poser" merit badge. On the other, the culture of petulant entitlement fucking enshrines the "damn everyone else's safety and convenience, I will not be constrained by signals and crosswalks" brain decay.

It's a prospect I contemplate often. Not just people, but property damage, too. My 245lb ass is a beefy projectile (:fun:) when I'm pedaling along at 15-20mph, and there is no stopping on a dime. I bet I'd make a pretty good dent in the side of someone's car.

It happens from time to time, and the cyclist doesn't need to be an Uncle Albert style fat ass. There is a lot of energy in a moving bike. Stopping it requires significant force. Cyclists who assume they can't cause harm need some re-education. Too many will justify running red lights on the premise that they only risk themselves. They're wrong.
