All depends on the quality - the more expensive, the more probable the longevity (not guaranteed, as @El Chup mentioned, CK stuff is shite), which at some point means it's more value for money even though it's more expensive. Other half has issues with this, she'll pay basement price for a pair of boots and seem surprised when they last a couple of months, I'll pay out a lot more and they'll last a couple of years of heavy use (my footwear has to survive several hundred miles of varying climates and terrain a year. And that's just me on the piss-up! ) That said, the best t-shirt I ever bought cost £5, could've wrapped that fucker round an airplane and watched missiles bounce off it. Sadly I outgrew it, I imagine it's being used somewhere to cap off an active volcano or something.
I've noticed that with certain cars we get on trade, Mercedes-Benz in particular. The engine can run damn near forever, but the interior begins to fall apart as soon as the car is outside it's warrenty period--oftentime, even before then. At least BMW offers free maintainence for the first three years.
Even if it were, you have to make sure the standard deduction is LESS than if you itemize and then they only will allow a PERCENTAGE of the actual cost. It's a scam to get you to pay for some of the cost of doing business. " You must buy.. and it's tax deductible!" It's the Walmart play. They pay their peons so little as it is, then to add insult to the injury, they force them to buy apparel items in colors NO ONE would wear. Forced to BUY god awful uglies.
In this case, quite a lot. I've used these ties over and over again and they still return their body and tie well. I have about 200 of the £40 ones and I find them generally inferior (although still good). But, like I said above, the hugher price doesn't guarantee quality. For me it was about experimenting and then finding what truly was worth the money. For instance, someone gifted me a £70 Dolce & Gabbana tie and while I liked it, it was vastly inferior in quality to the Brioni, so I'd not be minded to buy something from D&G again.
