Didn't they already do this and call it "The 100"?.

Okay, it was a two headed elk not a two headed cow, and a space station rather than a vault, but...

Nah. That’s a pretty common aesthetic for atompunk. Didja notice that one of the robots floating around in the background looks like a version of the helper robot from The Black Hole.

That Fallout aesthetic predates the new show by a decade.

well, yeah... that's why I presumed prologue.

It's more than the retro futurist/atompunk genre that caught my eye, like the apparent design lineage in some elements like the typeface, the hemispheric hotplate and the moon rocket. They looked related enough to make the connection vs if this were TOS or Forbidden Planet.

I thought this dropped today, but apparently it came out on the 10th. Started watching last night and got through five episodes before falling asleep.

The tone and aesthetic is noticeably different from the games, but only slightly. Like, it looks like they were still using gasoline-fueled cars when the bombs fell. They probably could have deviated from the source material a little more in some ways...

Anyway, so far I'm not disappointed. Although, Nuka Break was probably better.

I was fully prepared to hate it, but they mostly hit the right absurd tones for me. We'll see if they can sustain that for 8 episodes.

I do wish she had picked up a 10mm instead of a syringer, though.

first ep is only really there to introduce the mains and set the story. think of it like the first act of FO3 where you get going on the quest.
it picks up pretty quickly next episode and the easter eggs just keep getting better.

Sorry, forgot where I was posting for a second there, let me try again:

This show is bullshit. The technology is too advanced and compact to accomplish without transistors. There's no way people wear PipBoys all the time. With a 4in CRT and all the tiny vacuum tubes that thing needs, it's got to weigh at least 20 pounds. Everyone would have big, beefy left arms and be walking around like a bunch of Trog Dors, and they'd still be uncomfortable to wear.

The pip boy has always been an issue for me. In the game. Since it’s in the game, I expect it to be in the tv show.

I’m liking Walton Coggins in this role. He’s an excellent alternative to Hancock. Not a big stretch from the character he played in Justified, but he does do the character well.

I like Finn. I mean, Maximus. Too bad he had to kill Michael Rappaport right off the bat - or rather, allow him to be killed. I’m sure he would have been an excellent addition to the cast. But watching Finn/Maximus try to figure out the power armor is entertaining enough. It’s a bit weird putting slapstick humor into this kind of show, but then …. The wedding night scene was just as over the top.

Lucy has some huge ass eyes.

Kinda wondering if she’s going to kill her husband immediately or wait long enough to see if she’s pregnant. Doesn’t appear to be any way for her to get back into the vault. She’s going to need someone watching her back if she can’t. Even if she’s not pregnant.

The only fallout game I have ever played is what happens to large southern ladies when they see a man in a dress and fall out screaming for Jesus as I walk in the place.

There are som FO4 and FO76 aspects. There’s a gulper in episode 3. That’s definitely FO76. But, yea, it’s set in Southern California.

Watched the first episode only so far, and almost entirely because Jonathan Nolan has never failed me - plus a few actors i really like.

    BUT

My initial vibe, never having played the game, is that Nolan could have made a helluva show with the story he seems to be setting up without it having any connection to the goofy game motif. I know that fans of the game are apparently grumbling about departures from the game canon or whatever, and apparently someone made the comment that the show wasn't made for them (honestly, creatives need to stop saying rage-bait shit) but to me I'm a bit worried that being connected at all to the game will drag down the result.

It may. I was trying to describe it to my son (who has played all the Fallout games - he likes New Vegas the best) I said “it’s slapstick but in a serious setting.” And he was like “oh, so just like the game?”

Finished it last night... satisfied with the ending and how there's room for a new season/series, but everything is still wrapped up enough that it isn't necessary.

Cool. As of 3 pm today, we still have 2 episodes to go. Then we can go and listen to the reviews on the internet.

At the end of Episode 6 (what happens when the ranchers have more power than the Sheriff). though …, I was shocked, but probably shouldn’t have the Amazon would go there. Next two episodes will tell me if I like it or hate it. At least from that perspective. But, so far it is in line with the game in that it is an alternate reality in which nuclear fusion is used for power after WWII and the politics of that era remain the same as this universe.
