Oh, well in that case I don't think he should be made a mod. (Yes, I'm aware that my vote doesn't count - just talking). It'd be like starting a job where your boss already has it out for you - shitty. Plus, if Elwood doesn't like/trust him enough to read the shelter, I'm assuming he doesn't trust him enough to make warning decisions. And you would have to make a seperate sub-forum, otherwise when he did warn someone he wouldn't be able to post in the automated thread it generates here.

Make him a MC mod and give him Shelter access.

If he puts one foot wrong, though (sharing Shelter information, abusing mod powers, whatever), demote and ban his ass.

If I were to become a mod, I'd expect no less for myself.

Good directors scream at producers that they need a herd of Indian elephants. Now. Good producers get it done... :?:

I still don't see a good reason to "try him out".

There isn't one. There are people who Elwood DOES trust who are fully capable of doing the job. Some of em might even be interested.

I can't, in good faith, use the, "You asked to be a mod so you don't need to be a mod." line because I asked. Borgs had just setup the IRC chat room and I asked him if I could be an op. It spiralled from there with Cass approaching me about a gig in The Blue Room after I expressed a desire in case of vacancy.

I then told Cass that I thought we needed two American SuperMods to cover the board during the evening in the US. I told her that I'd be happy to help in that capacity, but if she had someone else in mind, that was fine too. She tapped me and that started my road to Admin and eventually owner.

So, I went after three positions, I got those three positions, and look where it landed me. :ramen:

I asked. No crazy ulterior motives either, just wanted to be included and try to help.

Yah, but we already had you in the pipeline for staff when you asked.

I volunteered to assist Borgs with the server move, and got promoted from there.

Flashlight could be the first person to actually annoy his way onto staff, from the looks of it!

My main concern is how Flashy would react when he gave his first warning or closed his first thread. When the inevitable negative reaction hits, what would he do? He does not have a good track record of handling criticism as a regular poster. How would he react if he stirred up a good old-fashioned :turd:storm while exercising mod duties?

There's a difference between asking via PM or in chat and starting a thread on it every single time a mod in MC resigns or is transferred, and several other times besides.

All of that is valid and I've asked him to address it before I consider him further. Come on, ya'll had to know he'd send me a PM asking for it eventually.

Fuck it. I say give it to him (Flashlight). No double-secret probation bullshit, just let him do it. If he sucks, he gets booted.

    No biggie.

Yeah, the double secret probation stuff won't fly. If you're in for a penny, you're in for a pound. If he gets the job, he will be a full position with all the pains and troubles that come with it.

If he were to be brought in I would like the chance to go through and outright delete anything personal I've posted in here.

That's probably my biggest concern. I think he'd be a good mod, well, he'd be a good mod until he didn't get his way on one issue or another.

But, I just don't think I trust him to show the certain...discretion...that's needed when we discuss matters in here.

Really, nothing should be said in here you wouldn't want the world to see anyway. We've had leaks in here before and probably will again.

A private chat or PM works better for really sensitive stuff.

Also....you never know. If he really wants the job and is as dedicated at it as he is at getting it, then all this concern may be for nothing. Most of us here troll on some level or another...but it doesn't mean we aren't decent staff.

If he gives us a reason to regret giving him a shot, it is easily fixable.

And I'll just say what evenflow is dying to and is probably hovering in the air unsaid in general...just because I have posted so called "personal information" before doesn't mean I haven't been trustworthy and discreet with matters here. Sometimes you can't really judge a person's ability unless you give them a chance.

So why not? What's the worse that's going to happen?

Just give me a head's up so I can remove anything I feel needs to be gone first. You can risk it. I don't have to.

What did he do in the past that makes people not trust him? Or is that private?

You mean, besides the continual lack of stability when confronted and the tendency he has of locking on to personal traits and info about others?

Trolling someone with info they've already shared on the board and leaking info from the shelter are completely different, and I say this as one of his favorite child bride, pot smoking targets.

You can trust him if you want. I don't. And since Tamar seems to have the "Don't post it if you don't want it getting out" attitude, I'll just not post personal stuff in here, either.

That would be a good idea since Shelter information has been shared before, with no recourse, IIRC.

It's not an "attitude"...it's simply a fact that hidden rooms are almost never as secure as you want them to be.

Yes, and right now, it's secure enough for my comfort. Bring in The Flashlight, and it won't be.
