    Hodor

A retard who can only say his name: Hodor

Renly's death was rather tame. I was hoping for a bit more blood.

Amazing that his guards automatically come in and blame Brienne whose supposed to be guarding him instead of Catelyn.

I can see they are building up to the big battle. I hope it's good because this is getting kinda boring.

    Makes sense to me.

Catelyn is a middle-aged woman not necessarily known for her swordplay. There is little chance that she would have been able to kill Renly one on one, let alone assuming Brienne was doing her duty as one of his Kingsguard.

The only way Catelyn could have killed Renly is with Brienne's complicity.

Also, Brienne is a unwomanly freak, so it would be more believable that she is physically and morally capable of such a crime (at least to Renly's men.)

    Doesn't work.

Catelyn can hold a dagger just like anyone else.

On top of that you don't blame the guard as fast as they did. They ran in and said "you killed him!" (paraphrasing) without even asking one damn question.

In the book she was with him much longer and they knew her.

I thought the phantom menace killing Renly was rather lame. Now the question will become, why doesn't Stannis just use it to kill all his enemies?

Also, the guy who promised Arya he would kill 3 people for her, I am guessing he is some sort of lesser deity or genie or something?

I think Stannis has a limit on that. Plus I think he traded a baby for it. Or his soul. It's not clear in the books yet.

And the guy promising Arya to kill is an assassin. I can't tell you more without spoiling it.

Of course Catelyn can hold a dagger. The question is if she can fatally stab Renly without Renly or Brienne stopping her.

Even if you answer that as yes, the question would then be "Why has Brienne not cornerered Catelyn or killed her?"

A reasonable conclusion to jump to is that Brienne either did the killing or was part of conspiracy to kill.

Especially since Brienne is visibly armed and Catelyn was not.

There is the question of motive and character profiling. There's no real reason for Catelyn to want Renly dead -- he just agreed to work with Robb to attack Joffrey. And the Starks are all about HONOR. It would obviously be dishonorable to attack one's host.

Whereas it's possible for one to come up with motives for Brienne, from spurned lover to justher general freakishness.

Finally, the "You killed him" could have referred to both Catelyn and Brienne. Catelyn jumped in to defend Brienne, thinking the "you" referred only to Brienne. Brienne jumped in to defend both of them.

It's magic so they can put any number of rules on it they want.

Also, in this episode, they already had the scene where Davos and Stannis talk about it in a roundabout way. Davos tells him that he shouldn't use Melisandre to take King's Landing, that people think that Stannis is being Melisandre's tool, that if he does take her, people will think the victory will be hers and not his. Stannis agrees with Davos but then tells him that he will lead the attack.

In other words, even assuming they could get more of these shadow babies or other magic to fight Stannis's battles, he has chosen to fight the conventional way.

And why not? He now has the numbers on land and sea, the rightful claim AND the Lord of Light on his side. How can he possibly lose?

He has repeatedly referred to himself as "a man." No reason to believe he isn't one.

I'm surprised that you take issue with the above and not Arya failing to name as the first person to die as Joffrey or Cersei, the people she names in her prayers.

Yeah, that was my take on it as well. She really didn't think he was telling the truth or could do it, so asked for the torturer to be killed as a test.

When he gave her the option of killing 3 people, I was thinking to myself "please don't say Jeoffrey right off the bat!"

Yeah, but why not test someone tougher? Even if she thought Joffrey and Cersei were too big a stretch, Tywin is right there to be killed, or the Mountain.

I'm not revealing anything that wasn't shown :)

Because even though the guy is a killer he still has to be able to get to his target. Those guys you mentioned are all going to be well defended.

And she wanted proof of it fast.

You can't get much faster then right there in the castle with her seeing some turd of a evil guy get snuffed.

So it occurred to me the other day, that the "mighty Baratheon black-hair gene", which is SO dominant as to even surpass the Lannister "golden-hair gene", isn't exactly working in Renly. Sure, Robert and Stannis could be considered more gray than black (although they look pretty much dark brown-haired to my eyes, aside from the gray....), but at least they're close. Not so much w/ Renly...

    Robert

Renly - using a bit of Westeros dye, perhaps? Definitely some product in his hair!

If I remember correctly, when Ned was reading the history of the Baratheons, they were all "black of hair."

I would still say Renly is "black of hair" as well, at least if the options are "black of hair," "blonde of hair," and "red of hair."

It might also fit that Renly's hair is slightly lighter than the others. After all, he is lighter in the loafers than the others. I keeed.

In an interview GRRM said the hair color of certain families thing is some how magical or at least doesn't follow ordinary genetics. That means Lannisters are always supposed to have golden hair while Baratheons have dark hair, etc... It's a little cheesy but it kind of works for the series.

Sure makes it easier to follow who's who, what with all the bajillions of characters in the story.

In the books you could always flip to the back where they had family trees to help readers keep the who is who straight but that's a little harder on a TV show.

Wow... Theon really went full asshole this episode. I kind of liked Theon before despite his shortcomings, ... insecurity, pompousness and all... but for him to stab his own people in the back so remorselessly... Fuck him.

^Blood runs thicker than water. He probably feels like he maybe belongs with his people and just needs to prove himself to them. He also probably thinks he's never been fully accepted into the Stark's household. I see a character trying to find a home and a family. This is his way of telling his family that he belongs with them.

That's just it: They aren't his own people.

He was a hostage. A well cared for hostage but a hostage nonetheless.

Had his dad gone about and rebelled again Theon's head would have come off as punishment for a second rebellion. And you know Ned "I must follow the rules to the fucking letter" Stark would have done it too.

Oh... and is it just me or is Jon Snow totally sucking as a Knight's Watchman?

Speaking of which, those women "wildlings" clean up pretty nice, don't they? Considering Bran's servant Osha and Snow's hostage Ingrid. :soma:

Considering Osha's normal appearance, who would've thought she was so.... well manicured under all those rags and fur!
