One of them was Ed Sheeran. They got him to do a cameo as a surprise for Maisie Williams because she's a huge fan.

I feel so bad... I didn't dislike Ed Sheeran's cameo, but I thought it might be fun to see him die a horrible and gruesome death in Westeros. So I started the #DeathToEd hashtag on Twitter as a joke and tweeted it to him. What I didn't anticipate was that a great deal of was that the rest of Twitter would react so negatively to his appearance and that Ed would be so sensitive to criticism. He actually deleted his Twitter account! If the cameo was from one of my favorite artist like Beyonce or Jay-Z, I'd feel the same. It would be fun to see them die Westeros style.

I watched it again last night and I noticed something... When Sam was going through that book named "Legends Of The Long Night" at the Citadel, he discovered a mountain of Dragonglass on Dragonstone. Just a page or 2 before that was a detailed drawing of the Valarian Steel dagger that an assassin used to try and murder Bran in season 1, but Catelynn Stark and Summer thwarted. Littlefinger claimed that the dagger was his and he lost it to Tyrion in a bet and this set the events in motion that got Ned beheaded. We all assumed that Cersei sent the assassin to kill Bran in order to silence him after he saw her and Jamie making love... but as as far as I can remember, that was just an assumption. What's the significance of that dagger with respect to "The Legend of the Long Night?" Why was it so close to the writings on Dragon glass? We know that Valarian Steel can kill a White Walker, but what's so special about this dagger? Whast ever happened to that dagger? Does anyone involved know enough about it to get word of it back to Jon? Any theories or speculation?

OK... Just scanned through Season 1 eps 2-3. That is the same dagger that was used against Bran. Varys, one of the most well informed people in this world denies knowing who the dagger belongs to. Littlefinger claims that Tyrion bet AGAINST Jamie Lannister in a tournament against Loras Tyrell and that's how he lost the dagger to Tyrion. He's obviously lying because Tyrion would never bet against his brother. Sir Roddrick, Ned's Bannerman, gives Varys the blade for inspection. I'm not sure if Varys ever gave the dagger back or if Sir Roddrick took it with him and Catelyn to The Vale. There is a conversation between Cersei and Jamie in Kings Landing where Cersei calls Jamie stupid for the attempt on Bran, a child's life. I'm not sure if she's referring to him pushing Bran out the window or the sending the assassin with the dagger. I'm going to assume she meant the assassination attempt since they had the "are you mad" conversation in Winterfell after he pushed Bran out the window. So Jamie sent the assassin and presumably gave him the dagger and Cersei had nothing to do with it.

Oh... and another thing... Sansa is sporting Cersei's season 1 hairdo when she challenges Jon in front of the Northern bannermen... When she claims that she learned a lot from Cersei. Foreshadowing?

Jee-bus... I'd really like to know how bored people are to work themselves up into online rage over, um, everything. This was a completely harmless cameo. They didn't make the whole episode about him, he didn't get any special treatment (looky here, it's ED SHEERAN!!!!!), and I didn't even recognize him at first. Really how the holy trifecta of giant fucks can one get angry over such complete nothing?!

On the other hand it's probably better than no hobbies at all.

I suppose I'm inviting scorn by saying I never heard of this bloke before. So his appearance in the show was just another extra to me.

My kids like him.... Which is why I want him dead. Nothing to do with his Game of Thrones appearance. Seriously, I think the more aware you are of who he is, the more jarring it is to see him in GOT... I can see where it might take you out of the fantasy if you're a huge nerd.

In the books it was made clear Joffery sent the assassin and the dagger was one of the many King Robert had been given as a gift which he ignored and forgot about because he just didn't care about much beyond drinking and whoring. Joffery just picked it up out of Robert's armory and then offered it to an assassin in exchage for doing the deed.

Joffery suspected who his real parents were and was afraid Bran would talk so he not very brightly came up with a half thought out plan to assassinate Bran to keep him quiet. Littlefinger got wind of this and spun it to start a war between the Lannisters and Starks because that was how he planned to rise by creating war and chaos.

OK... So I've played Season 1 eps 4-5 in the background as I work... In several scenes, the dagger shows up sitting on Ned Stark's desk in the Chamber of the Hand of The King. I'm guessing the dagger is in Kings Landing still.

Any chance they changed some details of the assassination attempt in the show? If you watch S1E3 around the 27 minute mark, Cersei is explicitly chastising Jaimie about the assassination attempt on Bran. Jaimie obviously orchestrated the attempt on Bran's life... again.

What are spoiler rules? I was assuming anything already in an aired episode didn't need tags but everything else did.

His objection was mentioning officially released photographs from the film set before the season started. I would argue official releases (from months ago btw) are fair game but out of politeness I spoiler tagged them anyway.

My take is that if "spoilers" appears in the thread title, then show spoilers don't need to be hidden. No matter which show it is, I stay out of those threads until I've caught up on the most recent episodes.

For those of you who've read the books, though, I know some people would appreciate it if you hid those spoilers behind tags.

Didn't know either until my wife pointed it out to me. Still didn't know but was told I hate his singing and had mentioned it to wife and kids. Still don't know and not really interested in finding out what songs I supposedly hate.

But it's fucked up that people would do what they did to him because he was on the show. Hell I'd love to be on the show even if it's just as a dead body. ;)

I disagree. Those are spoilers. Official pictures released by HBO can be spoilers. A lot of people avoid things like that.

It's like these idiotic movie previews that spoil whole parts of a movie.

We are beyond the books now.

Stannis is still alive by the end of the last book.

No. Not quite right on the second part of your post.

In the books Joffery never suspected who his real parents were. Robert Baratheon is his father in his eyes. Sure he eventually hears the accusations but the books never give an indication that he believes that Jaime and Cersi are his parents.

Jaime believes that Joffery sent the assassin because Joffery overheard a drunken King Robert say it would be better to put Bran out of his misery and Joffery was always looking for ways to impress King Robert. Of course Joffery is an idiot child and hence you have a screwed up assassination.

It's never said word for word who hired the killer but everyone believes it to be Joffery and it makes the most sense.

As for Littlefinger it's most likely he was lying to Catelyn Stark when he said it was his and that Tyrion won it off him in the tournament. He knew Catelyn would never believe Tyrion no matter what Tyrion said.

As for the daggers location as per the books, it's too long to type out because the conversation spans a few books so I'm just going to link to the article.

Wrong. Joffery orders as many of Roberts bastards killed as possible because he looks nothing like any of them yet all of them have Robert's black hair. In fact, all the Baratheons have black hair so I suspect that is one of those semi-magical family traits just like all Lannisters have blonde hair.

The reason Joff tries to kill all the bastard sons of Robert is because it shows he is not Robert's son.

    From your own link:

After Joffrey's death at his royal wedding, Cersei and Jaime discuss the assassination attempt on Bran. Jaime decides that Joffrey tried to have the crippled Bran killed as a misguided attempt to impress Robert.[15]When Jaime frees Tyrion from the Red Keep's dungeon, the brothers agree that Joffrey was responsible.[16]

This post you wrote makes no sense as it has nothing to do with Joffery ordering the hit on Bran.

Remember at that point in the book Joffery is not King. King Robert is still alive. So there is no desire to kill Robert's bastards.

Joffery is trying to look good in his dads eyes and he is believed by Cersi, Jaime, and Tyrion to have ordered the killing of Bran.

The books never actually specify that Joffery did it but he did it. Catelyn Stark realizes that Littlefinger lied to her about the dagger and that King Robert actually won it at the tournament after a bet. That's how Joffery got his hands on it. Littlefinger was not at Winterfell when Bran fell so he couldn't be the one who gave the dagger to the killer. The only ones who would try something were Cersi and Jaime and they both claim given that Bran was guarded night and day and they believed Bran would die anyway they didn't try. That left Joffery.

Joffery orders Robert's bastards to be killed only after Joffery becomes King because by this point in the books he has heard the accusation that Jaime is his real father and to prevent Stannis or anyone else using one of Robert's bastards to try and upsurp him he orders all Robert's bastards put to death. Joffery doesn't believe Jaime is his father but he's still smart enough to realize that there is a danger if one of the other houses gets their hands on a bastard that Joffery could be deposed.

    Yeah, and?

Again it doesn't contradict anything I wrote.

Jaime pushes Bran out the window.
Joffrey overhears a drunken King Robert say Bran should be put of his misery.
Joffrey orders the murder of Bran. It fails.
Catelyn takes the dagger to Kings Landing to give to Ned.
    King Robert dies.
    Joffery becomes king.
Littlefinger takes the dagger when Ned Stark is arrested.
Ned Stark dies. The kingdom learns of the accusation that Joffery is not King Robert's true son.
Joffery orders the bastards to be killed to prevent Stannis and others from using one of Robert's bastards to take the throne from Joffery.
Littlefinger has the dagger with him when he's traveling with Sansa Stark.

At no point in the books does Joffery learn his father is actually Jaime. Joffery hears the accusation and acts on it but it's never said he believes the accusation.

    They don't have any artillery.

    They don't have gunpowder.

This is a world that supposedly relied on magic for thousands of years and then that magic died out with the exception of a couple small magic cults (relative to the total human population). So civilization has been set back.

Add in that education is non-existent for the general population and even the nobility (other than reading and writing) as all knowledge is closely guarded by the Maesters at the Citadel.

They don't even have printing presses.

They do have wildfire but they don't know how to make it. The knowledge is lost because the Alchemist guild says you need magic spells for to make it. And wildfire isn't a easy thing to deal with anyway.

Medieval ships used all manner of artillery which was not gunpowder based. Shit, Roman ships used artillery. Thing like catapults, oversized crossbows which fired giant arrows(often with chains attached to the end to aid in grappling and boarding), the Greeks used pump powered flame throwers spraying Greek fire, and there were numerous others beyond the regular bows & arrows or slings.

Artillery is not just the modern gunpower based stuff we have today.

There's a theory going around the web... it seems that every year, a king dies.

    S1: Robert Baratheon
    S2: Renley Baratheon
    S3: Robb Stark
    S4: Joffrey Baratheon
    S5: Stannis Baratheon
    S6: Tommen Baratheon

So who's going to die in S7? The nominees are:

    Cersei Lannister
    Danearys Targaryan
    Euron Greyjoy
    Jon Snow

Other than Euron Greyjoy, I'd say they all have pretty thick plot armor on.
