My top five favorite character arcs: Hound Snow Arya Brienne Had a few other contenders up thru season 7's end- Tubby, Jamie, Jorah, Tyrion, Rickon.
Why does Cersei seem to be relatively unpopular? I figured Lena Headey would tend to draw lots of affection given her great performance in the two "300" movies.
Arya, the Hound, Olenna Tyrell and Varys were by far my favorite characters. Olenna got a great sendoff, and Varys got a shitty sendoff. Varys's sendoff would have been better if it had been built up more over the course of 4-5 episodes (rather than like 2) and if he had been more involved in the last two seasons. Olenna had by far the best death scene in GOT and perhaps most of TV/cinema. Just the smug satisfaction of being the one who killed Joffrey, and Dianna Rigg is such a great actress. The Hound had a great sendoff, but Olenna's was hard to beat.
Anybody watch The Last Watch documentary about the making of Season 8? OMG... the looks on the faces of the actors as they read the script for the first time... You could see the disappointment on Conleth Hill's (Varys) face when he found out how his character died. and Emilia Clark seemed to take her character's fate pretty harshly.
The rest were characters I grew to either not care about or dislike by the end of the show (or were not important enough, like Podrick). I'm partial to redemption stories (like Sandor Clegane, or Jaime for most of the series, or from B5 a guy like G'Kar), and well told journeys (Londo on B5, and Jon or Arya on GOT). And I only included "Rickon" as a joke.
Kit almost started crying when they read Dani's death scene! He was so bloody surprised he was going to kill her, you'd think he was never on the internet!
Along with lackluster Brienne in spot 4, that was my commentary at the dearth of character arcs I really liked, when it was all said and done. In back of my mind, I envision a sequel saga, that extends many of the storylines we saw, which would likely change my opinion on the story arcs I liked. Some, like Tyrion, really fell apart in S8. If being more serious, I'd have probably placed Sam Tarley and Jorah Mormont (his little niece (?) was great, but a C player) in spots 4 and 5. The 'Onion' dude also had an interesting journey, as did Berick and his resuscitator. I liked Tormund.
Not how I interpreted their respective reactions, but it's very probable that both you and I were projecting our own opinions. Also, Lena Headey comes across as quite the hippie!
That and some comments I read about Conleth Hill's disappointment... but you're right about Emilia Clarke. Kit Harrington seemed more disturbed than she did.
Kit's been checked into a clinic for treatment regarding stress and alcohol issues, so possibly he's been hit hard by the tangent the story took OR the fan reaction OR the stress of keeping everything spoilered up.
Best character in the whole thing was Drogon. That said, I kinda fell in love with Daenerys a little bit.
If I'm honest with myself, I had grown somewhat bitter about GOT since the ending. But this video, even though it is still criticizing it, reminded me of all the things I loved about the show. Season 6 is probably my second favorite of all the seasons.
Just finished the first season. First time watch. It was okay, but I don’t get the hype. Too bad Sean Bean was killed. Lots of titties, maybe one wiener. Liked Emily Clarke’s character, but she was miscasted for Sarah Connor for sure. Loved that they ended with the reveal of the baby dragons. ETA: Dinklige's character is my favorite. The kid who plays Joffery looks like a douche. Sophie Turner was a good pick, but I can only see her as young Jene Gray even though the X-Men universe is messed up. This show reminds me of Rome in many ways.
Finished my first run of Game of Thrones. The only thing I knew about the show was that season eight pissed a lot of people off. It became obvious from the start that people were probably pissed off about Daenyres was going to break bad. You can clearly see her slowly gaining power and that power was going to her head so from my perspective, I don’t see what everyone was upset about. I thought the series was very good and I really would’ve been fine with another season or two. The only problem is that it kind ended with everyone’s story being told and everyone, for good or bad, got exactly what they deserved. I did think it was strange to make Brand the king. What other threats are out there, Grey Worm? Maybe, but they kind of had to keep the (shakey) peace in order for everything to work. White Walkers return? That doesn’t seem likely. John Snow being king and going crazy? That would have sucked. Overall, I thought it ended the way it should have. Also, I’m glad John Snow killed Daenyres, it was the only way. I really wanted her to learn from fighting the White Walkers, “I believed in her”, but she crossed the line. There’s no way he could have beat her on the battlefield, especially with the red woman gone. “Duty is the death of love” , great line. The only thing I think could have been done differently is maybe Jamie survives and joins Tyrion. I hated him at first, but I feel like he was properly redeemed. I’m guessing the prequel will a lot of torching cities.
I didn't have a problem with how it ended, it was just so rush-rush-rush. It's like Benioff & Weiss were mail room employees staring at the clock waiting for coffee break, and couldn't wait to run out the door.
Oh, I dunno, give us an episode of Bran warging up clues to why he should be destined to rule so it doesn't come out of nowhere.
I also want to point out that I literally jumped out of my seat when they took out Littlefinger. What a slimy bastard.
