I don't deny the earth is warming, I deny that humans have contributed to the extent we are talking about.

30 years ago NASA thought we were headed for a mini iceage. What happens if in the next 30 years we start cooling off? We strip him of the prize for being completely wrong?

And on the same day he gets that, a British high court judge rules.....

Nobel gives out prizes for science fiction?

In that case I hope Harlan Ellison and James Cameron get nominated for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made killer androids.

Given that Jimmy Carter got it in 2002 (and the Nobel people admitted publicly that the only reason they gave it to Carter was to insult President Bush) can we really be surprised at this?

Don't be surprised if Bill Clinton gets it sometime in the next few years.

Did Carter win it for "Rimming the Dictators - The Musical?" :)

This has to be the most questionable choice in my lifetime, even over Carter's win. I find it disgusting that Doctors Without Bounderies has to share this with such a con artist.

When I was growing up, I was under the impression that the prize was for achevements benificial to mankind. :alpha:

Evidently, I was dead wrong. :bergman:

To be fair, he wasn't given the prize for the factuality of his work, but for 'spreading awareness of the CC problem'. However factualy incorrect his film might be, it did spread awareness....

So he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize not for any particular level of accuracy but because of "popularity"?

By that rationale the Grand Wizard of the KKK should get a prize for spreading the awareness of racial issues. :salute:

Yep, along with Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin for their efforts in the middle east processes at the time. Worthy? Questionable considering his responsability for so much bloodshed. I'd site that as one of the declining moments, but it was a shared deal.

I have always thought that Arafat's position was compromised when he refused to accept terms that would have given him 98% of what he wanted and he walked away. Thankfully, we won't be dealing with him again.

Don't forget Henry Kissinger and the North Vietnamese guy for producing "peace" in Vietnam.

The guy from North Vietnam at least had the decency not to accept his.

So good to see Algore being lumped with the likes of Yassir Arafat and Jimmy Carter. I'm sure the hypocritical ass had his private jet all fired up and ready to go.

See, that's why Gore is old-school politics. Some element of the truth is in there.

    And then there's Bush.

Woohoo, I think I might do that. It's a shame you are too fat, lazy, and slovenly to be able too. Than again, you are probably doing the world and children a service by not doing so. We'd hate to have the kids crying over a guy who looks like a beached whale in the wave pool.

Actually today is Disneyland. I'm helping corporate profiteers pay off those beach houses. :D

Does anyone really think Gore cares about global warming? He's trying to restart his political career.

I agree with Gore on a lot of things with regard to Climate Change, but WTF does this have to do with the Nobel Peace Prize?

    It's a "Peace" prize, not a "Do-Gooder" prize!

You know it is possible for it to be both.

I have no love for Gore. I disagree with damn near all of his political positions. I do however, respect and love the environment. Always have. Humanity has been making a collective mess of the environment for years. Far longer than just the industrial revolution. Something needs to be done to preserve and protect it, and if it's a sensationalist film with some slight exaggerations. Well, that's fine by me.

Now, don't get me wrong. I ain't one of these Eco-terrorists who runs around all anti-car and fire bombing housing developments. I'm far more practical about it.

Sure, I think Gore cares about the environment.

He's not entirely rational about it, and the fact he admits in interviews that he distorts the truth in order to raise awareness (ie lies) should have made people realize that there are better ways of going about it.

I respect the Nobel committees on the hard sciences, but quite frankly when it comes to politics they can't separate their bias from reality.

To be fair the Nobel committee fucks up in those areas too. It's just that nobody gives shit since politics is not involved.

Ah geez, fat jokes (and frankly, not as good as the one I make about myself). That's original. You must kill in fifth grade. But feel free to run along and play with your Pokemon cards while the adults chat.
