So this is the vineyard that we are putting in on Saturday. These start on 10/17/2006 through 3/24/2007
Cool, my mum has some vines on her land in Portugal, not sure of the grape variety thats growing there, but apparently they are very nice
Cool. I was expecting something bigger, though. Is this just an experiment for the purpose of mastering the skills before going big time? I'll be very interested to read more progress reports. I'm thinking of giving wine making a try, myself, though living where I do, that means starting with grape juice provided by somebody else. Not nearly as satisfying as doing every step of the process.
Some, but I forget what they were. Also, I won't be making wine for a little while yet, if I even decide to go that route with the grapes.
I am taking it slowly. An Acre is a lot of work, so I don't want to overload myself with both expense and just plain work. (I already have on full time job ) At least till I am sure I can keep them alive and producing well. But hopefully we will be able to put in more every so often. [action=Mrs. Flow]crosses her fingers.[/action] I hope you can, I am going to try to make some wine with a guys grapes, that I know locally. And then this summer I will make some from the grapes I already have in production.
200+ posts 2+ miles of wire 1 mile of irrigation line 550 irrigation emmitters 300 ft underground water line 550 grapes All without a single Mexican. On her part, hours of classes in grape growing, wine making, etc. And that's just the start. The experiment was the two dozen vines three years ago. Perhaps you'd like to help plant this weekend? Wrong answer.
The one grapevine I tried to plant died. Where'd you get yours? Obviously not at the grocery store...
Flows, I don't mean to say it isn't far bigger than anything the rest of us our tilling. I just kind of thought you were doing several acres. Doesn't in anyway diminish the hard work associated with the demonstration project. I do have a few questions, though. How many grapes do you expect to yield? What do you anticipate on your grape to bottle ratio?
Just spoke to my mum in portugal on skype, i asked her what type of grapes she has growing... she said 'green ones' Seriously, she isn't totaly sure but thinks they might be chardonnay
Oh my Grandma's land, she's got quite a few, pretty oldish volunteer grape vines growing here and there. My cousin's figured out what kind of grapes they are...can't remember what he said, but apparently it's some kind of heirloom scuppernong...but he's gonna make a go at cultivating and harvesting them for wine. I doubt he'll get anywhere with it, as he never finishes anything he starts. I got another cousine who's found a hellufalot of burl on the property, and is learning how to make some really nice bowls with it. I might see if he'll have a try at some custom 1911 grips.
Nekkid grape wrestling. Where can one find skinless grapes? BTW, What neck of the country are you all in? (I'm curious about your terroir)
Hmmm.... Mrs. Flow + Mrs A + + a bunch of grapes that need pressing = I think I've got an idea that'll put The Flow's vinyard on the map. I'll be in my bunk working out the details.
Nekkid Grape Stomping is a fine idea. "Nekkid Wine" has a ring to it. However, naked beekeeping would not be recommended.
