Huh. Not the tone I thought they would go for, but it certainly suits some of the various styles of the comics over time. I think I like it.
Maybe a bit too cutsie-flippant for Starlord, but I loved the rest. And how can you not love a trailer backed by the Ooga-Chucka song?
Yeah. Rocket Raccoon can only go two ways: It will either be a Jar Jar Binks style embarrassment, or one of the hottest cult icons of the next decades.
Drax and Gamora but no Pip the Troll? Whatta revoltin development. Glad to see the light treatment, it's different than the Guardians I'm familiar with.
Pip may show up as Thanos becomes more prominent. Or if someone is thinking of a Warlock movie or storyline, maybe then.
There is going to be a Gaurdians 2 in phase three, so, they've got breathing room. Settle down folks, this isn't the only chance.
Were I to get a introductory, quasi movie related, GOTG graphic novel or collection, what would it be?
It's gonna have to walk that fine line between being tongue in cheek and seriousness. And that's a very difficult balance to maintain.
The series started up anew about a year ago, and went to some length to reintroduce the characters. So if you just get the most recent two TBs, you should be fine.
Behold!! http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/Marvels-Guardians-Of-Galaxy-Prelude-TPB___449085 Both a movie prequel, and the comic origins of each character.
Also, MovieBob to the rescue: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/8818-Who-Are-The-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy
http://io9.com/latest-guardians-of-the-galaxy-teaser-is-all-action-wit-1577864341/all I's a trailer for a trailer, but fuck it, I don't care. :slice:
My gut tells me this will not do as well as the other MCU movies, it's a much less known property. Space scifi is not "cool" with the general public. and two words... Rocket Raccoon
Yep. We'll get Rocket Raccoon Lego, Rocket Raccoon bedsheets, Rocket Raccoon spin-off comics, Rocket Raccoon/Hello Kitty crossover dildos (you know you want it). And if everything goes according to plan, MoS 2 will, at the very last minute, add a CGIed Batmite as its 23rd main character.
Ohhh, no. This ain't no cuddly Disney talking critter. This is one fuzzy little bad-ass. Just you wait.
And the overwhelming part of the general public doesn't know anything about that...they see a Disney character (yes, I know, he is...you know what I mean)
If this means kids will be running around mimicking a pathological serial killer, shouting: "I murder you!!" while their parents pat their Rocket Raccoon t-shirt-clad little sweetpies on the back for being cute, I guess we can call Phase 2 a success. And laugh maniacally.
Can people please shut up with the "the mainstream public doesn't blah blah blah", horse-hockey? The mainstream public was barely if at all aware of Iron Man. Look how that turned out.
Also, when Avengers broke all previous box-office records, it might have been time to redefine "mainstream" at that point. Either that, or do what we did with 'modern'. The word used to mean 'of today', and then people got so used to calling some things 'modern' that eventually grew old, they introduced 'post-modernity' to refer to 'now'. Just make sure to remember that there are more people involved in post-mainstream than in mainstream.
