I have a Don Hume belt that I've liked a lot. It is sentimental to me actually.

Anyways, when I was in Hawaii I dove in after someone while wearing this belt. Saltwater corroded the metal snaps on it, and one of them came apart.

I emailed Don Hume, and they said "Send it in or we can send you metal snaps." I figured it would be the quickest for them to send me the snaps, and they promptly sent them to me.

Now that it has arrived, I have figured out that I need a tool to set the snaps. I'm guessing I could cause the flare I need with a punch of some sort, but there has to be a better way than that.

    Any ideas?

Something like this, maybe? Years ago I needed to install some grommets and I used a tool similar to that one.

Pictures? As for belts I order mine from The Belt Man, located in Cary NC. IMO he is hands down the best maker of gun belts. Also in your situation he uses piano screws so you can change out the buckle as you see fit. His customer service is outstanding as well.

The only "belt" I care about comes out of a bottle of scotch. :drunk:

I'm pretty sure you can get a snap-attacher at a fabric store or a sewing supply place.

A gun belt? You mean, like with a beltbuckle that holds a gun? Or an actual belt made entirely out of guns. Because that would be cool but I don't think it would fit through standard sized belt lopps very well. It would tend to be heavy too. :borg:

When I first saw the thread title, I though he was talking about an old west or police-type gunbelt with cartridge loops and such.

I bet if they had open carry where he lives, and I'm too lazy right now to look it up, he would wear such a belt. :D

TN is open carry....if you have a CCW.

NC is also open carry, and I do have a cowboy rig. :D

A "gun belt" is a belt with double stitching designed to resist stretching both on the belts and eyelets.

I do not have a cowboy belt.

I do like the belts at The Beltman and Don Hume websites. It's time to stop being a cheap belt buyer and plunk down some good money for a couple.

Not to be cliche, but I have been looking at DressGunbelt.com. Guess what I'm interested in? Yeah, a dress gun belt.

Frontline, I did not see any nice dress belts from The Belt Man. I need something I can wear with a suit.

Also a proper gun belt is not made out of one piece of leather. It will be made out of two pieces of leather, with opposing grains. That is to prevent the stretching of the eyelets and of the belt.

Are you looking at the 1 1/2" belts or the 1 1/4" belts? By dress belt do you mean suit and tie or business casual? For suit and tie go with a 1 1/4" belt and have the stiffener added. Go basic black or cordovan. If you need to=, change out the buckles to something brass or silver.

OK, but I wouldn't recommend attaching a carabiner and trying to repel with it. If your belt loops pop, it'll become a chest harness and your in big trouble.

Not at all. It's just part of the design of the buckle. If they offered one without that feature I'd get that one, but they don't (or at least they didn't at the time), so I didn't.

I always figured that carabiner could be used for other things, like attaching to the pistol lanyard so that when you run with your gun hanging from the lanyard it will hit you in the balls, and make you a tougher, better runner.

I just wear a garrison belt from Boston Leather. I have a 1.75" Black Basketweave w/Brass Buckle for the times I need a black belt or under my Duty Belt. I have a 1.75" Brown Basketweave w/Brass Buckle for when I need a brown belt.
