Could it be that the AWB might have been passed in a more meaningful form if the debate had been more "open" and "civil" instead of dismissed out of hand? Only speaking for myself, I've never lumped all gun owners as muderers/terrorists/racists who have blood on their hands. I have taken quite a lot of crap and been called a gun-grabber on a number of occasions for not being of the body.

Yeah, y'all should definitely lay off on the clips vs. magazines thing, both for tactical reasons (does it really matter if a high-capacity clip is banned?) and because there being a difference doesn't really matter. They always mean magazines, and you know it. They don't know what a clip is except that sometimes movie characters say "clips" instead of "mags" and it seems to be the same thing. Trying to tell them Hollywood is wrong is pointless. The parroting is muscle memory.

But do go particularly Socratic on the "assault weapons" thing. "What about it makes it an assault weapon?" "How do those features make it more deadly/move it out of the realm of militia weapons?", "How many people have been killed with a silenced pistol?", etc.

Shut up when they say assault rifle unless they say that a particular gun is one when it isn't. Maybe we can get an assault rifle ban out of it and they'll be satisfied in their ignorance.

Absolutely do post the DiFi video when they say they nobody, certainly nobody in power, really wants an outright gun ban.
