When did mods have that power? It's certainly not a built in feature, since we didn't have it when I was a mod. Was it something bestowed then taken away? At any rate, that is only one of two reasons for mods to not engage in rep wars, the other being the conflict of interest. I'm on record in the other thread in support of the idea that the rule shouldn't apply to tech admins, but since it does apply, I think you need to argue whether or not Nick is abusing the rule. Is he? He's trying to get people to neg bomb a poster he doesn't like. Is that functionally different from doing it himself?
And I'd carry it further, to say that things like "I'm glad she's dead," don't mean anything either. Yet some people get their pants in a wad over it just the same.

Giving out 5 negreps for honestly disagreeing with someone's posts is not abusing power. Tasvir has been abusing rep for a while, handing out 2 negreps for every 1 he gets. Having that many pips has gone to his head. Tasvir does nothing warn-worthy, but he still ticks people off. Nick may have a "namby-pamby" attitude, but he's going about this the right way by calling for a boardwide rep war against Tasvir. He's not allowed to participate, but I'm sure others will step up and support him.
