Let me put it this way: You'd have to take more drugs than Heath Ledger to escape the pain of the assraping we're gonna get in November.
^But you've got to admit it's fun to watch the Republicans climbing all over each other to abandon ship...
They aren't really abandoning ship. Now that McCain has the nomination all but wrapped up, they are lining up for the choice seats on board the Titanic. The line-up to kiss McCain's butt is getting longer by the minute.
Don't cop out. It's November, the ballot has Obama and McCain, and one of those two is going to win the presidency. Of those two, who do you want choosing them?
McCain swears up and down he'll appoint Strict Constructionists. Obama doesn't know what a Strict Constructionist is.
EDIT I at first assumed you were talking about Obama and Kusinich I'd take the judges McCain appoints over those obama appoints in the abstract isolated view....but there's a bigger picture than who the next two judges are and getting mildly acceptable judges instead of flaming lefties isn't a big enough motivator for me to overlook the big picture.
Case in point: A co-worker of mine (who's about 20 and a bit of a dingbat, to be quite blunt) was saying he had thought about voting for Obama because he was black ( )but changed his mind when Clinton was offering universal health care. Apparently he thought universal meant free, and not the forced medical insurance being pulled out your paycheck that Clinton was proposing a few days ago. I asked him if he'd be okay with the idea of being forced to pay for insurance in a situation where he was 10 dollars over the "able to afford health care" category on his tax return, and Doofus Mc Dingy says "yeah, it'd be fine because we'd all have health care." That's gotta be the single-most short-sighted thing I've ever heard anyone say.Why so willing to give up your own freedom?
You have put your finger squarely on the issue where government programs are conerned. Most people think "provided by the government" means "free." Make no mistake: Even if a universal health care program was set up that wasn't the "we will take it out of your wages to make sure you buy it" approach that Clinton is proposing, it would still be paid for by "taking it out of your paycheck." No matter how little people like to face reality, the bottom line in economics is still: "There is no such thing as a free lunch." Actually, if we have to have the government meddling in health care, I would prefer Clinton's approach, because it has the advantage of not trying to hookwink the people into thinking that they are getting it for free. If all government programs were financed the same way, you would see much less enthusiasm for government spending. (Those figures are just made up, as an example; don't try to take them as some kind of actual analysis of public spending.) Don't you think that would cause people to see "government handouts" in a different light? But because it's all hidden by "income tax withholding" and "Social Security withholding" and "sales tax" and "employer's contribution to Social Security" and so many other things, people don't realize that they are paying directly out of their own earnings for every "free" government program there is, whether they benefit from it personally or not.
Scrabble! I can attest to the wonders of tax withholding when I got a 1.15 raise in mid 2007. It apparently pushed me into a higher tax bracket because I received a very tiny sum of money compared to what I had returned the year before. Not only that, I'm getting another raise in the next month, and I'm actually dreading it. I'm afraid to see how badly Uncle Sam's going to decimate my paycheck now, let alone the utter robbery that will become my tax return at the end of the year. Why can't Uncle Sam be the cool Uncle who lets you borrow his car to take your girlfriend to the movies, instead of the Uncle who likes to touch you on the butt when you walk past him, and steals change out of your car's ashtray when he thinks you're not looking? Think about it. I get a $1.52 an hour raise, and I'm making less per year now in net income. It's insane! J.
We're fucked either way. Just don't vote. I predict this will be one of the lowest voter turnouts among Republicans since the party's inception.
you've been bitching and crying like a little girl since I've known you about one thing or another being either already screwed up or a matter of certain impending doom. Are you happy to see everyone else join you in your despair?
