I've seen some spinning like tops. I've seen the video. You do realize we have more than one tv station down here? That down here is nothing but wall to wall Irma coverage?

And the owners response is easy: Hurricane Irma. Shit happens.

Worst part is not being able to see outside. I like watching stuff like this.

Going to have to get cameras for next time.

    It's ok.
If they weren't turning (none are spinning like tops, unless you have lousy tops) they might be falling.

Secondly, the crane parking break should be released and left in free slew when high winds are expected. In order for this to be done safely you must ensure that there is nothing that can make contact with the jib within a 360 degree radius around the crane. By leaving the crane in free slew this allows the slew ring to move freely with the wind and not fight against it. If the parking break is left on and the slew ring is parked in a fixed position then you are risking having the wind blow against the jib and impose loads on the crane that it’s not engineered to sustain.

Fuck you. God damn condescending asshole.

this being Florida, I can imagine a drunken redneck riding the spinning crane after yelling "hey! Hold my beer!"
Or if this was about 15 years ago and hearing "Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville, welcome to Jack Ass - this is called The Crane Spin!"

I don't believe any were spinning like tops, but feel free to post links to videos. Prove me wrong.

Not that I don't sympathise with you. I lived in Miami from 1986 to 1990 and continued to own a condo there until '92.

You might try breathing into a paper bag.

Out of morbid curiosity, what part of FL do you reside?

I think Zombie was using a turn of phrase, rather than than stating they were actually spinning like tops.

Much as when people say "I'd hit her like the fist of an angry God", they're not actually wishing to indulge in deity-level female abuse.

Plus, the board role of pedant is already filled by Packard, and the last fucking thing anyone needs in the entire universe is a dual based on that.

Whilst I hope the Floridians are okay, and it's pretty horrific, I've got to say I'm mostly concerned about the cats in Hemingway's old place in the Keys.

    Cats I like. Humanity? Meh.

Luckily, Hemingway's house is limestone built on the highest part of Key West. The pack of six-toes should be fine.

The home is 16 feet above sea level. The cats are inside with the caretaker.

I find this to be a very interesting effect. The pressure at the center of a hurricane is so low it effectively sucks ocean water to it causing a huge bulge in the ocean's surface. So if everyrhing goes right it can cause sea level to recede in nearby coastal areas. I saw a video from the Bahamas yesterday where they ocean was just gone and rhe coast was hundreds of yards further away then normal and now this same thing is happening in Tampa Bay.

Yeah. They really got screwed with Irma changing course. Local channel has some people in Naples and the video they are showing is amazing.

Got wind and rain where I am but the power is still on.

Those high rises are great but when those crains fall that is a huge amount of steel falling out of the sky. Do folks remember the crain that fell on Saudi Arabia and killed so many people. It was right next to the pillgram route.

Of course, they also frequently trample each other to death.

six of one, half a dozen of the other! Anywho, Irma has "gone off script" and headed west, so all those folks who evacuated Savanna must be PISSED OFF mo'fos! :shakefist: They did the smart thing from what was known at the time though - hurricanes have a mind of their own! So at the local level here in Augusta all government offices are closed, all schools, all military bases, and many businesses. They want folks hunkering down (and off the roads!) when the wind and flooding starts and we lose power. So my whole day is devoted to indoor exercise with computer breaks now & then.
