So it looks like the Atlanta area has 500,000 or so folks without power still. With Irma shifting to the west everyone knew that would happen. So far my only damage was one of my lawn ornaments was tipped over (I knew I should have sprung for concrete instead of plastic!) and today when I tried to leave the gym at 7:00 AM the traffic light was not working and I had to take a detour to work. And I lost some money not working because Fort Gordon was closed yesterday but I got to watch "The Price Is Right" on TV. Can you fucking believe that show is still on?
The north keys let everyone in today. The middle and lower keys it is still not safe to return. If they let people in it will quickly turn into lord of the flies.

There's one road in and out. There's no power or water. There's no fuel. There are no emergency services. I'm guessing all the Tom Thumb stores are closed. The people that got out of the keys before the storm are probably pretty glad they did. Unless they're stupid, but those stayed.
Niece and horsies in Ocala okay. Mom and Sis in SC okay - much wind, branches down. Strange phone-outtage effects - Mom couldn't phone Sis, Sis couldn't phone Mom, but Sis could text her son, who could then call Mom and relay the message. And vice-versa. Odd.
After seeing pictures of the damage to the southernmost point monument, I'd imagine FLDOT wants to do a check of the bridges before sending heavy loads over them. Unfortunately, that takes time.
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
Some states allow it while others do not. I am assuming that means some sort of court review has been conducted at one time or another and they didn't put in place a blanket ban as KOB wishes they had.
The before and after shots of the Virgin Islands from orbit... I'm thinking they're gonna need a new name :'(
We got hit hard but we're pulling through. Power is back in my area and debris is being picked up. Gov. Scott did a great job making sure the state was ready but then again Florida always does a better job than other states in being prepared for these disasters.
I have to say it was not a bad time. We lost power early on Saturday night and were out until Monday night. Cable just came back Thursday morning. By Sunday night the winds were dying down, but the house was hot as hell being the seventh ring and all. So I had filled my car up with gas before all the stations closed and since everything is within ten miles of the house I went into the car with my drugs, some plush pastel ponies, and the working radio and partied till dawn with the wind raging outside comfortable with the air conditioning on all night. Not like a cop was going to come buy, or the elderly neighbors were going to wake up. I still think blizzards and Midwest tornado swarms are worse than floriduh hurricanes unless you get a direct eye hit.
Well, Irma indirectly killed my parents' 15-year-old diabetic cat. They packed up and drove to Knoxville, TN before the storm hit but the stress of the trip caused him to go into kidney failure.
possibly, but 15 years old was a big factor too to be honest. Super high-stress/physically difficult situations are hardest on the elderly, and animals are no exception. Still, sorry for your loss.
Just heard my niece's horse farm finally got power and water back, which is really good, because she's spent the last week having to go out and get, and transport, water for 40 horses.
I was listening to NPR after the storm and they were saying a lot of it had to do with the reforms made to FEMA by the Obama administration. Republicans were loath to admit it but it was never the less true.
