The study focused on toning down the nerd dominance in intro classes so that women aren't overwhelmed at the get go and walk away before learning if the field is for them.

1) There are a lot more CS classes than just intro ones.
2) There are more things to bond over than just nerdom.

Thinking about it, helping male CS students expand their horizons could actually help them as well.

Because writers and producers want to get paid, women should always be a target audience and who gives a shit if you want reach out to women, what's the point in signalling that out?

If nerd culture is so fragile that removing some posters from entry level CS classes threatens it's very existence maybe it doesn't deserve to live.

You don't honestly think that pictures of Captain Kirk are turning people away from their studies do you? I find the claim highly dubious given the amount of women that are Trek fans - some of whom have gone into science careers because of Trek.

Yes I have read the summary, which is only a paragraph long, and no I am not going to play this game with you. I need to read the actual study to know the full parameters before I accept something as neither article or the summary fully sets out how the conclusion that, among other things, seeing nerd posters puts women off computer science has been reached. They simply say that is what has been established, and I no more take a summary at face value than I would something like the Bible. I want to know how the conclusions have been reached before I accept them as valid.
