Some guy on Techcruch said today that there is no chance of it either because Apple would have to make a completely different kind of phone to be compatible with the Verizon network. That being said, fuck you Apple. If Motorola can do it, Droid on Verizon, Milestone on Telus....Apple can do it too.
There are reports out there that Apple has hired CDMA engineers to build one. With that said CDMA guys should all convert to GSM.
GSM is much better for data. Given that, it's amazing how bad AT&T's data network sucks compared to Verizon, who uses CDMA.
http://www.azcentral.com/business/consumer/articles/2010/07/01/20100701iphone-verizon.html There ya, go, straight from the mainstream press.
I wonder is Verizon even wants it. They have a great Droid lineup, iPhones are network hogs and if the drop calls issue is with iPhone they'll have another headache to boot. Plus,if Apple has just sold 30 million of them and the holidays have just passed Verizon would get it at the worst time. I think it's another
It would be the perfect time for them to adopt them without massive network surges - low demand, like you said. I would imagine they sell a ton of iphones once tax returns start coming in, so that's another plus. Finally, everyone has droid phones, but Verizon is king. If they dilute the iphone market and remove some of the orgasm factor, it could strengthen the position of droid phones - and thus verizon.
Well by the time they get it hopefully Apple has pulled its head out of its ass and fixed those problems.
I've heard that 3GS + v.4 software is a better bet than 4G. Does anyone know if this is right? I'm heading for an iPhone in the next few weeks...
I know a lot of people having issues when they update to v.4 software... Can you push off the few weeks to a month or so? Apple will have their problems fixed, and once that happens the new iPhone will be pretty fucking cool phone.
I updated to iOS 4 within minutes of it being available. I have a 3GS. I've had zero problems. That said, I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Yes. Folders are nice. Yes, the central mailbox is quite nice. But, as far as the "look" of the GUI, I was perfectly happy with the older OS.
1) The fact that Verizon still uses technology that was old 8 years ago is a big reason I've never considered them when shopping for a phone and 2) I just had cocktails with a friend who's toddler drooled all over her old 3G and she completely hates the reliability of the new 4G. She says it is worse than you can possibly imagine and if the interface wasn't so damned slick she'd trot off to the nearest AT&T store and shove it so far up the ass of the first sales rep she saw that a shitty antenna would be the least of his reception problems. (no pun intended)
That's true. But, for those of us living in the sticks, Verizon is a godsend. They are the only carrier in my county and the immediately adjacent counties that offers a 3G network. In fact, one of my very best friend's house sits in a really, really bad spot. He has to have a land line because his Sprint phone, my AT&T phone, and his GF's T-Mobile phone literally have no service within 1,000 yards of his house. But, his sister's Verizon phone not only has five bars of service at his house, she has a 3G connection.
I don't understand why Verizon doesn't bump on up to HSPA technology. They could get the iPhone then, and every other phone on the market too. Plus, its almost as fast as 4G. Its interesting to look at coverage in Canada. Telus has virtually the entire province of Alberta covered with HSPA. Big oil came in and needed service, and Telus gave them service. Win-win for me.
My oldest daughter bought herself a 3GS for her birthday last week and loves it. She's got the v.4 software and hasn't had any problems at all.
iOS4 on the 3G is slow as fuck. Wishing I'd not installed the swining thing Apple really ought to have it be just for the 3GS and 4. Hopefully the white iPhone 4 will be available shortly and I'll collar that, the 3G is just too slow now, but it's been a fantastic phone whilst it's lasted, other than the initial issues at the start.
Another option that often works on the 3G is to go into the Setting and reset the phone. That did wonders for me when I still had my 3G and helped friends with 2nd gen iPods.
And Verizon is going to beat AT&T in launching its LTE network by at least 18 months. Besides, how is AT&Ts network any better? This. Verizon's network is every where. I know at the SHOT SHOW in vegas in February and my own industry convention in Long Beach the other month AT&T users were dying for signals and I never had one problem.
Wife got the iPhone 4. Awesome phone. I managed to score a iPhone 3GS from a doctor she works with. Awesome phone. I can see why Apple sells these things like crazy. If I was another phone maker I'd ditch Microsoft and do everything I could to clone Apple phones in terms of ease of use and looks. I'll probably wait until next year in hopes of them giving the 4 phone more memory and of course working out any kinks.
4.0.1 crashed my iPhone 3GS tonight. It's some kind of error having to do with the firmware. 1014 is the code and from what I've read it happens to people who jailbreak then upgrade. The thing is I have never jail broken my phone??? Luckily I will be in Houston tomorrow and I can just pop in an Apple store and have them fix it. I guess it's a good thing Skype exists or I would be living like it's the 90s minus the pager and land line.
Quick question... Does anyone know how to make multiple albums in the photo section? I'm trying to sort all my photos into multiple albums. Thanks.
Yup. Use iPhoto (or whatever you use) and set up as many as you want. When you go to synch through itunes select just those and you'll be good.
