Tell that to the victims of the Crusades.
Tell that to the victims of slavery in the US
Tell that to the victims of American genocide of Native people on this continent.

Your inability to think logically knows no bounds.

Things some people are not realizing about this. Maine is the Mississippi of the northeast. There were hill people in NY who were scary and inbred as any small southern town. Maine is a state full of scary inbred hill people. I drove through Maine and I was so happy to get back to somewhat civilized modern rural areas when I hit Nova Scotia.

Even places like AL and MS have schools in small towns. Not Maine. In the case of people from rural Maine religious education is better then getting an education from the inbred fucksticks that are there. Have you seen Lisa Murkowski?

Seriously, this is 2022. Put some fucking schools in your shithole third world country of a state. WTF was SCOTUS supposed to say when the state isn't making schools?

Fuck you the state of Maine. You made this ruling possible by not building schools in your small towns. What can we do with backwoods regressive shit no one but the fundies want?

I mean, a Republican candidate said on stage just last month words to the effect of "killing the Indians and taking their land was a good thing because they were spreading the gospel"

And Dinner too, despite how he and Sokar used to :thelurker: about that issue until he croaked.

Or maybe Dinner never hated his anti-Muslim schtick, just that Sokar was mean to him about everything else.

I realize now that the whole anti-muslim hate after 9/11 was really just the excuse to bring racism back into the sunlight. Trump took advantage of it, but 9/11 was the wind beneath the racist wings so to speak.

Yea, I’ve heard that before. And it’s not a new kind of thinking. That particular bit of cognitive dissonance has been around at least since the 80s.

I think the launch point for a lot of this crap was George W. Bush and his faith based initiatives. I recall many political types trying to normalize the government funding of these initiatives under the guise of “compassion.” It was as if redistribution of taxpayer dollars to fund religious indoctrination was A-OK as long as you could get a few people off drugs.

Assholes think everyone else is an asshole. Vikings didn’t commit genocide. Native Americans didn’t kill off travelers. That that’s where your thoughts immediately go, says more about what an asshole you are rather than any security measures the aboriginal people did or did not take.

They were certainly willing to help the Pilgrims to survive their first years here. Heck, you should hear what Christopher Columbus had to say about how they greeted him when he showed up.

The original Supreme Court justices, (John Jay, John James Wilson, John Rutledge, etc. ) will be turning over in their graves as they fought so hard to make the Supreme Court just as relevant as the other two branches as this morning's decision just removed them from ... everything. They are no longer relevant. States will begin making decisions on reproductive rights for women and no one will be going to the Supreme Court for anything in the future. They've effectively cut off their noses to spite their face.

Someone might want to do a wellness check on him and bring him a mop because I am sure the SCOTUS ruling on roe has made him cum a fucking river. Oh, and someone should probably hang him for the killing of trillions of himan lives.

Of course the justices and the Court are still relevant on abortion and everything else. It is not like pro-choice people are not going to try other legal tactics to preserve abortion rights, and it's not like anti-abortion people are going to be satisfied with having the issue remain with the states since there are going to be states -- many of which happen to be the most populous -- where abortion rights are still in place.

There is nothing stopping the Court. except wanting to hold on to some level of self-respect, from creating a new precedent saying that fetuses have constitutional rights too, and abortion is unconstitutional (or creating a bizarro-Roe where abortions are constitutional only under circumstances that they dictate.)

These particular justices won't overturn or restrict Dobbs any time soon, but at least hypothetically, a future court might. At some point there will be a new plaintiff like Jane Roe who will bring legal questions that a future version of the Court will answer and may very well completely differ from the current one. Does Dobbs mean that a state can impose criminal penalties on either an abortion recipient or provider? Can something like the Texas bounty law still stand? Can a state 100 percent prohibit abortion even in the cases of rape, incest or medical necessity?

As bleak as things seem, this isn't over.

Maine is a strange place for sure. The vacation areas of southern Maine are really nice and Portland has Shipyard Brewery, but north of there it gets really weird.

Lisa Murkowski? Did she move to Maine?

because "life at conception" is not the position of medical science, but that of religious conservatives.
