If nobody is doing stupid shit at other boards that's worth talking about, then yes, this forum goes dead.

It's a variation on the "If it bleeds, it leads" priniciple of journalism. Good news just isn't post fodder.

Speaking of which, do we even really need the Gray Room anymore? Seems like we have pretty much forged our own identity. We aren't really a spinoff board anymore.

A good number of our active membership are not exiles from TBBS... aren't even Trek fans.

Discussion of other message boards could still happen here (Red Room maybe?)... but I don't see the need for a specific forum based around it.

I agree. Any discussion of another board won't be the overwhelming topic that it once was in 2003. A thread on other websites can easily co-exist amongst the current topics in the RR. I think the Gray Room's purpose was valid back in 03 and 04, but now it's no longer needed.

Owner doesn't want ANY whining and bitching about other boards to be elsewhere on the board, so...

That owner was Cassandra. And we all know what became of her.

I tend to agree it's pretty dead, but it does seem to be able to keep about 2-3 topics active. Whether or not that warrants it's own forum is another topic.

Heck, a video games forum would be a lot more active than this one.

This forum exists for a purpose and it serves that purpose well. So long as that's true, it doesn't matter how much traffic it gets.

It served a purpose for when WF was new. That was like over 3 years ago. It's purpose has come and gone. It serves no real purpose anymore.

What? There are no other boards now? WF is the only site on the internet now?

To be honest, this room played a big part in the reason I ended up staying here. It was a great way to vent and bitch about the Enterprise shippers (I think I started no fewer than five threads with words "ENT Shipper" in the title the first four months I was here. ). After a few weeks, I went on to the RR, and eventually grew tired of posting about a problem I could avoid by not posting there.

The point I'm making is: if it isn't broke, why fix it? I'm kind of surprised that Face of all people would make a thread of this sort. Sure, no one posts here to bitch about TBBS anymore, but I'm sure we aren't the only people online who have had a bad experience with another board. I can remember at least three people complianing about TwoP giving warnings and bans simply because the mod's sensibilities were offended.

Besides...there are still quite a few fuckwits at TBBS worth discussing (Kirk1ADM, anyone ).

The purpose of this room wasn't to make a dedicated forum for bitching about other boards. It was to rid the RR of the clutter of threads about other boards on the internet at a time when 50% of the RR volume was on TBBS and TNZ. This is no longer a problem. Cassandra feared becoming a board whose only identity was talking about how much they hated that other board. Well that time has long gone. We have our own identity.

It seems absurd to think that we can't discuss other boards or websites in the Red Room in a day where politics and serious issues take place on the internet - such as blogs, campaign sites, and other controversial issues.

You'll argue that you can discuss those topics here, in the GR, with the same rules as the RR. But why? Why segregate the topics that often overlap? The reason RR rules apply here were to allow us to continue our TBBS bashing to our hearts content. Why do you think this room is hidden/subscription only? To keep TBBS threads out of WF.

I suggest to you, my fellow WF posters, that this is no longer a problem. And the purpose of this room has been served and is now over.

The purpose of the Gray Room is, in fact, to be a dedicated forum for discussion about other boards. If you choose to continue to disagree about that matter of fact, you should explain to Elwood how his decree that this is a forum for discussion of other boards is in actuality a lie and that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

In other words, Face, when you try to say that this is a forum only for discussion about TrekBBS, you are lying.

This forum was originally created for the purpose I outlined above. If you disagree that's because,well, you are wrong. I don't know what to say about that.

But, as I said, that purpose is over and this forum is now superfluous.

It's not a matter of disagreement, it's a matter of fact. Whatever reason it was created for originally is irrelevant since it isn't the reason it exists NOW.

The reason you suggest makes little sense. This thread makes up like 20% of the current threads in the gray room. I see no negative impact of merging this with the red room.

What you see or don't see is irrelevant.

Opinions aside, the room stays for now. It does no harm to have it here and whether it was originally meant as a forum to bitch or not, it certainly serves that function at this point.

Traffic level has never been a litmus test for this room, and won't be now. If you aren't into this forum, don't visit it. Simple.

Never thought I'd agree with Face, but he's right. Traffic doesn't warrant this forum and a few bitching threads in the Red Room won't hurt it. It's not like the old days when bitching threads would have outnumbered the legitimate threads.

Odd indeed. But Tamar, I didn't say I'm not "into" this forum. I am. But its a waste of space now and it should be merged back into the RR.
