okay, well let's look at two examples of mediocrity we have here. Myself and UA. Which one of us do you think isn't going to presume that the salient deciding factor in getting passed over for a position is a DEI quota?
It is not mediocre people unless the area is low on black people or the employment pool for the position. UA's are might have a low population of skilled black workers due to being in whiteland USA. There may be certain white areas in flyover states that did not have a black slave population, or even northern rural areas which are prodominantly white with an exceptionally low ration of POC to populate their local employment pool. These areas might be in need of a quota or DEI hiring resolution because of a heavy white bias with no POC within traveling distance of the job. In this case a quota may cause an unqualified resident of color to be hired over a white person in a rare circumstance. I have never seen an actual study claiming that. It is always some shitbag republican speaking on what fox news told them. Quote the study that showed it. In an area with a black population feeding levels of the hiring pool it is only poor stupid whites losing jobs they were not qualified for. Those were people the rest of us had to work harder because of. I had reverse prejudice when I was working. Put me with the black or hispanic person. They were always working hard and improving themselves. I always felt like I was pulling more weight than everyone else when working with white people. I even worked QC and stats and except for me and a couple of other white dudes you could set good odds that the people on top[ of stats with the least dings were going to be anything but white males. If you could bet on that vegas would have white work ethic as the lowest. I actually could see the dilbert principle at work. The only failure in the dilbert cartoon was that Asok should have been the most productive and used member of the staff. Making him a moron was the indication we should have all seen that Adams was a complete racist douchebag.
Thank you for proving my point. That response is exactly what the meme is meant to engender. There are plenty of racists and sexists who aren’t jealous losers.
It's been a week and I'm plesantly surprised at how for the most part, Doc's understandable prediction has not come true for the most part, and I say this with a particularly progressive set of online friends. Thank God.
I think someone already said it, but Biden's most valuable skill is his ability to build consensus and get things done almost invisibly behind the scenes. Seems likely that he spent most of the time between the debate and his announcement quietly ensuring that the Dems would line up behind Kamala, but not so quickly that it wouldn't look organic. "We'll quietly slip the media a list of high profile Dems that haven't publicly endorsed her yet, then after they try to make a big story out of it for a couple days, they'll publicly endorse her and that'll become the story."
It looks like Biden stepped down because of the poor debate performance, but I wonder... Biden kind of said in the first place he didn't want to be president in the first place, but thought Trump being president was a bunch of bullshit, and thought he could beat him. Then, he figured Trump wouldn't try again, and he wouldn't need to seek reelection. I wonder if Biden wanted to drop out months, or years ago, but everyone around him suggested he wait for the right moment? Maybe he purposefully threw the debate because he just wants to fucking retire already? Then, the assassination attempt happened, and Biden said "we're not going to get a better opportunity for me to drop out." Maybe they waited until close to the convention so they could just hand the nomination to Kamala? I mean, white Christian Nationalists were upset about Obama, so they voted for Trump in the primary. Liberals upset about about Trump... well, we tried the most recognizable candidate the first time, and it didn't work because Trump is back. If there was a regular primary, we might have voted for a dirty Commie, and we can't have that; our corporate overlords would flip out.
I don't buy the idea that any of this was planned in advance. I also suspect that the transition from "I'm the one" to "it's time for me to step aside" happened very quickly, probably over the course of less than a week. First of all, Joe Biden wants to be president. Wants it badly. Has wanted it 40 years. Anybody who looked at the zeitgeist of our society in late 2019, and the unprecedentedly diverse candidate field we had to choose from, and went "gee, I think what this party really needs is a 70-something white man," has a hefty dose of ego in play. (And I include Bernie Sanders in that assessment.) Second, Joe Biden is stubborn. There are a lot of things I like about him — his empathy, his talent for building consensus — but he is stubborn. Besides which, nobody likes to face the idea of their own capabilities diminishing with age. I have no doubt that he truly believed he could keep on serving as president until January 2029. Finally — I am frankly stunned by how well this has gone so far. Given Democrats' fondness for second-guessing everything and arguing with each other in public, we had no reason to believe the transition to Kamala Harris would be as smooth or unanimous as it has been. Looking at the idea before Biden's announcement, it seemed far more likely that the result would be total chaos. A year ago, if anybody had said "hey, Joe should run again and go through the entire primary process, then fuck up in a debate and drop out in the middle of the summer, trust me guys, it'll be great," they would have been laughed out of the room.
I just wonder if Pelosi and the other power brokers started greasing the skids when Biden's team agreed for the early debate. That was a very unusual move and was noted as such by some observers at the time. I don't buy a full-blown conspiracy with Joe involved, but I can see where Pelosi & Co. might have decided to wait for the debate. "If Joe clobbers Drumpf, okay...but if he does poorly we'll turn up the heat and pressure him out." The amount of time between that fiasco of a debate and him stepping down seems like a reasonable amount of time to get things in order for a smooth transition. One constant thread in Joe's career is that he's been dismissed and underestimated by the punditry and the Republicans. He was sold short before the 2020 election and then he was billed as a "caretaker" president who wouldn't be able to do shit with a Congress stacked against him. The 2024 consensus was that he would either hang on despite the mounting evidence that he wasn't/isn't up to being president and running a campaign at the same time. Then when he turned things over there was skepticism that the changeover would be a smooth one. Now there's astonishment that the baton pass has been executed without so much as a stumble. As it turned out the timing of the handover was a political master stroke. Chalk up to Pelosi's brilliance or Joe's uncanny political instincts, a combination of the two or just dumbass luck, but it's still an amazing even that kind of reminds me of the way the U.S. changed the fortunes of the war against Japan at the Battle of Midway. The Drumpf Cult keeps making the same mistake by underestimating Joe over and over again. What's that definition of insanity that's so popular these days?
1. And yet the 70-something white man won the nomination in 2020, didn't he? Is it still ego if he was proven right? 2. My understanding is that Biden won because people didn't just want rid of Trump, they also wanted stability and consistency, and Biden being Obama's VP, represented that promise best. Here's what Alphaman said about Biden in 2020:
Even Trump would be superior to @Volpone being his idol. The only reason Trump is the world's biggest loser is because he was born with so far to fall. If Drump was born poor then we could see who was actually worse. When you can't even slumlord and have the money to do it, you are pretty much useless.
In more normal times it likely would be a cluster fuck right now, but it's probably impossible to overestimate how much of a motivator to get along that the threat of helping of Trump is.
My take on it is this: The debate happened, and Biden realized how much malarkey it was and immediately started the process of quietly shifting support behind Harris, including on having Obama hold off until the appropriate time, all the while pushing back against the calls to withdraw from the race until the right moment... which Trump gave in the form of Vance.
I would only say the RNC was the obvious time as he could not have known trump would pick couch fucker. BTW the man does not recognize the names not on birth certificates so his name is not Vance. I am not oplaying his game of pretend. He can identify as a Vance all he wants but he is clearly not born a Vance and I refuse to participate in his imaginary identity. His sexuality is another thing entirely and I fine with his preference for sofa fucking.
I think Pelosi et. al were making plans ahead of the debate. If Biden rallied and did well, so be it. He didn't and they were ready to make the move and drop the hammer on him. However far gone he may or may not be, he's still a superb politician and (ironically) like Nixon knew when it was time to leave. Everything has gone so smoothly that things had to have been lined up in advance, although the time period between the debate and the announcement was a reasonable amount of time to get all the affairs in order. I see no reason to believe that Biden can't serve effectively for the rest of his term without the added burden of running a grueling campaign.
The process of Kamala Harris making insecure little manbabies' testicles shrivel up and retreat into their bodies continues: “Now, I don't see why any man would vote Democrat. It's not the party of virtue, security, it's not the party of strength. It's definitely not the party of family. And to be a man and then vote for a woman just because she's a woman is either childish, that person has mommy issues, or they're just trying to be accepted by other women. And I heard the scientists say the other day that when a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman.” — Jesse Watters There is so much Freudian weirdness going on under the hood with these people, you could have an entire branch of psychology devoted to trying to understand it.
I would think her being an evil fascist bitch would be enough. https://www.thedailybeast.com/kamal...ied-to-keep-inmates-locked-up-for-cheap-labor
Prison labour's been a thing long before Harris. Allows the US to compete with Chinese sweatshops. Don't look for the GOP to scrap it either.
Then people should not vote for "GOP" candidates, either. Changing the color of their hats doesn't make it right.
Let's not pretend that UA would normally support releasing convicted criminals early due to overcrowding. That's surely just as unfair as student loan forgiveness.
Honestly this sounds perfectly American Like I'd be surprised if someone in say Denmark was proposing this But for USA this just seems par for the course for you guys Status quo
