    Conservatives are fine

The complete lunatics that currently infest the Republican party are pretty bad though and a huge problem

I don't think you understand what Conservatism is. Heck, I don't think most Republicans know what Conservatism is.

But, yes, Conservatism is a thorn in my side. But, not for the reasons you think.

The very basis of the difference between Conservatism and Liberalism is that Liberalism would move immediately and completely to progress as a country and as a people. Conservativism would wish to move slower, they need time to ... "wrap their head around" changes.

There are two types of people. People who like change (liberalism) and people who don't (conservatism).

I am very much a liberal in that I like change. I need change. and I see no reason to wait for others to wrap their heads around the fact that other people exist in the world besides people like them. I don't care if you need time to adjust.

Imma disagree here. Change is good, but society SHOULD be careful about change coming too fast for the same reason you don't go from vodka to wine to liqueurs to cocktails to tequila. Change too fast and it's not possible to put considered, valid and fair laws in place.

The issue I have with Conservatism is that it is too often used to preserve the status quo because of vested interests, rather than "let's determine how we can best address this" change..

How about if we settle it by letting her and AOC fight to the death in an arena filled with Jell-O?

And the speed of which, as well as taking all those possibilities into consideration is the true reason for political debate. Not whether to do so, but when. a timeline. and how much weight should be applied to possible outcomes.

This is what Conservatism has morphed into. and that is the problem.

Both @Jenee and @matthunter would fail political science class, and miserably I might add.

Your definitions of "liberal" and "conservative" are flat-out wrong.

The political definitions (which we're talking about) have morphed over time but, in a nutshell, the current viewpoint is that liberals believe in an active government that involves itself in many facets of society. Conservatives believe pretty much the exact opposite.

Again, those are the political definitions. What you see in practice, particularly in the United States, is often very contradictory.

For example, Republicans call themselves "conservative" and espouse smaller government... except when it comes to military spending, abortion rights, corporate subsidies, homosexuals, etc., etc., etc.

I'm in the UK - my definition of Conservatism is global - I'm well aware the US has fucked it up. And sadly, has been infecting UK conservatives for a decade or so now.

If conservative is defined as wanting slower, more cautious change, then the Republican party isn't conservative; it's reactionary.

I'm in the US - and my definition is also global. I'm well aware the US has fucked up and lost all political thinking with a bunch of BS designed to keep the masses from truly seeing what is happening within our government.

But, even WAB's definition is incorrect. Left leaning (whatever term your country uses) would be more concerned with protecting citizens where Right leaning (whatever term your country uses) would be more concerned with protecting corporations and big business.

Ummmm, newt's decades of digging is one of the reasons the deep end is so deep to begin with. Let us not start going more batshit insane by pretending newt was ever anything but batshit insane.

Do you realize he is one of the reasons why republicans will believe any insane lie fed to them?

Put the bleach flavored kool aid down and come back to reality.

The fact that there's even a debate in the Republican Party about what to do with Greene tells you how fucking broken the GOP is.

Imagine what the Freedom Fries crowd would have done if Democrats nominated a 9/11 Truther for Congress back in 2002 or 2004 and they got elected?

I mean, Bill Maher got canceled (yes, I said canceled) just for saying that while a suicide attacker is many bad things, "coward" probably isn't one of them.

“I’m sorry I said the quiet part out loud.” Speculation is that she’s aiming for the VP slot in 2024.
