I'm having trouble picturing a "reset" for the human race that doesn't read like a Kevin Costner movie.

Too bad you and O2C couln’t keep me on ignore. Then there’d be no need for this tangent split off.

Agreed, the "reset" Jenee wishes seems to be to an imaginary time that never existed, most likely one of those "when all people lived in harmony with the land and in peace with each other" fantasy versions of pre-contact North America that cynical aboriginal grifters sell to naive white hippies. :dayton:

Anyway, Warhammer sounds fun and breezy, I should get around to checking it out one day.

    Heinlein’s novel isn’t a cautionary tale.

The novel is grossly misunderstood, mostly by people who have never read it.

Is satire not a form of cautionary tale? I'm not a literary critic. :clyde:

I thought I had already hammered this home with my dark ages example, but Jenee can't process sarcasm.
And then she can't process  as "I can't fucking even".

It’s not satire. In his Expanded Universe, Heinlein straight up says that he considers it to be a blueprint for a viable society. It’s his answer to Asimov’s Foundation.

Heinlein wrote several different social science fictions, including the progressive Stranger in a Strange Land, the libertarian The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and the conservative Starship Troopers. His personal politics were also all over the place, running as a Democrat and then supporting Republicans at different times, though he seemed to personally be a proponent of Libertarianism the most. He also wrote in his preface in Revolt in 2100 that the conservative Preachers had a viable avenue to taking over America even with a minority, and he clearly considered that the worst outcome.

Starship Troopers doesn't say it's the best society, but it's largely social science fiction, and like the Federation by Roddenberry, it works because the author says it works. But in ST he's pragmatic about that and even admits it to an extent.

But ST isn't fascist, even if it is militaristic. The society is stated to be above racism, free of sexual prejudice, where everyone who serves gets a vote. And once again, it's religion that fucks everything up - the Mormons in particular start the bug war and it is clearly their fault. And of course the final reveal is that the protagonist Johnny Rico is a Filipino who lives in Brazil and his native language is Tagalog.

I think you're confusing book with movie. Mormons starting the war? That ain't in the book. :chris:

@Jenee we have all clearly misunderstood, so can you clarify what sort of scenario you are imagining when you say:

It was just a throwaway line. Something stupid off the top of my head. Certainly nothing worthy of a tangent. Fuck, Lanz talks of meateors all the fucking time and no one bats an eye. Jenee makes a similar comment and O2C and Anc decide that’s proof enough Jenee is a right wing militant asshole.

    Guess I am.

Because despite expressing my very liberal ideals for nearly 15 years, and despite everyone claiming to have Tererun on ignore, all she had to do was a mere suggestion that because Uncle Albert and I have been in a relationship for more than 10, I must also be painted with the same brush that everyone paints UA - not that he does anything to discourage the nonsense. Everyone here is just as stupid for falling for that nonsense as Tererun is for saying it.

Oh thank fucking god this is my fault. I thought my powers were gone.

For just a moment I thought I was one of you normal fuckers and it was like that episode where Q lost his powers and had to be babysat by the android.

It is ok, universe is still operating as normal. Troll princess powers are still intact.

Those dismissing the need for radical change in society are - among other things - ignoring the content of this thread.

A "reset" is coming, and soon, either one chosen or forced on us.

If the WEF has anything to say about it then there will be a reset forced upon us.
