Personally, I think it's a good idea, although there really should also be separate seating for really tall people as well as the disgustingly obese. With the former, they are squished into these tiny little chairs so that their arms and legs are pushed right up to the seat. With the latter, their disgusting rolls of fat hang off the armrest and you are made to touch it just by being in the same row. Why should normal people be punished because someone was born abnormally tall or with a "gland problem".

Used to have suck weight for HS wrestling, to make weigh-ins. I remember some the habits developed in trying to game the system at the margins.

Airport eateries could see windfall profits from binge eating after weigh-ins at the passenger scales counter.

I wonder how this is gonna work with tickets bought online. Are people just going to say they weigh x amount and the company hopes that they are honest? Will they enter a weight and then get weighed at the ticket counter and pay the difference if they're heavier?

That is the way it should work. A big public scale that you walk over when you enter the secure area. You lie about your weight, you don't fly. Give them a 10% window. Lying is probably a better reason for a TSA shakedown than what they are using now.

Transporting people is not the same thing as transporting cargo (unless you're smuggling them, I guess). What other method of transporting people charges by weight, rather than passenger? Last I checked my bus, train, tollbooth, and taxi fares cost the same as Fatty Boombalatty and Anorexic Annie.

Yeah, that wasn't the best example, given the stories I read that said Miss Princess threw a shit fit to leave a day early and no one in the company, including the pilot that was flying the thing had any balls to say no. Fuck them.

But there is some merit to the idea of more altitude - less weight = more stability in-flight, regardless of the size of the plane.

I absolutly agree with the weight to ticket price ratio concept. Though I personally won't fly because of the mental attitude and capacity of the TSA 'workers', perhaps this will spread throughout the industry and help with people getting to lose weight. Or stay home and the airlines will save on fuel costs and lower polution from burning jet fuel.

With all the objections to FDA approved substances in food and the recent popularity of organic.....everything, I can't imagine it would be too difficult to eat healthy. Hell, wouldn't you cut out the hormones on your chickens if you could sell them for $2 more per pound?

Edit: In response to the OP, I wonder if this would alter the weight restrictions on luggage? Lighter passengers or better forecasting of overall weight could potentially allow more weight for cargo....but probably not.

It's not difficult to eat healthy food in the US, and it need not be more expensive. Throwing a salad together takes less time than even making up a pot noodle. People get fat because they'd rather chow down on pre-made junk food than choke down a bunch of spinach.
