No. The exact same amount of people will have to wait in line.

Those who check their luggage will it exactly they do today, they'll just get on the scale with their luggage to be weighed.

    No extra time.

Those who don't check bags will use a self service kiosk just like they do today. Except underneath it will be a pressure plate.

    No extra time.

They already do have people wandering around.

You keep saying there will be delays but have yet to show where they will be. Where are these delays?

It's going to be time consuming and expensive to get these pressure pads installed under every kiosk in every airport. Not every airport is going to implement them immediately or ever, thus airlines with a "weigh everyone" policy will have more passengers (from the carry-on only group) standing in line at the check-in counter to get weighed. Do you not see how that will cause delays?

Quite frankly, your pressure pad idea is an unrealistic pipe-dream. Or else why can't they just do that with buses, subways, and trains too?

So it's impossible to calorie count, even if the food has sugar in it?
We have copious amounts of junk here too. I work hard but I always, always prepare fresh food for myself unless I am going to a restaurant. It's really not hard. Part of the challenge is easily solved by not buying in the shit in the first place. America is not a place were fresh produice does not exist.

    No, I do not.

But what I do dispute are the numbers of people who use it as an excuse. A great many people have become obese due to their lifestyles, at the risk of their own health, but society has offered these people excuses out of facing the obvious reality of their situation and now, somehow, makes it a crime to have a frank discussion with them.

If someone has a disease, fair enough. But if they are going to say that they are obese for medical reasons and not their diet then they better have had they confirmed by a doctor if they want to convince me. Otherwise, it's a case of putting down the pizza slice and picking up a salad. It should go without saying that even if they have a dsiease the health diet should be followed to avoid extra weight or health problems. Are you telling me that people with diseases form a majority of obese people? Somehow I don't think you are....

Part of the problem is that we're lazy. Why spend 30 minutes making a meal when we can just buy a frozen dinner and nuke it for 2 minutes. Sure, it has added preservatives, sugars, and salts, but it's more convenient!

Not that I agree with such a lifestyle. Though, I do give in and buy frozen meals every once in a while in anticipation of being too lazy (on Mondays or Fridays especially).

When an airline implements it I imagine they will do it all their ticket counters at once, like they did when they started weighing every bag. Except even less expense, all you need is throw a pad down in front of the self serve kiosks, no need to rip out counters like they did for the checked luggage scales.

You're making the assumption that they would implement such a thing as pressure pads. You're talking about an industry where companies drag their feet updating their equipment and are still flying planes made 30+ years ago.

Maybe they should be making an attempt at improving fuel efficiency, instead of utilizing the failing model of nickle-and-diming customers with increasing fees? And as we've already covered, if they utilized existing infrastructure, wait times would increase. If they installed new infrastructure, it will cost them money to implement and enforce.

And you haven't even discussed the discriminatory aspects of this. Men on average are heavier than women so they'll be paying more. The only way around that is to have different base weights for men and women, which is still discriminatory because a heavier woman would have to pay more than a man a man who is the same weight as her.

And if you're going to be charging an overweight customer more, will they also get a bigger seat? Or will they still have to pay extra for that? It's not simply a matter of weight but space as well.

HA! El Chup is on to Megatron's bullshit. Calories are calories. If sugar is too high-octane, you eat less of it. Every fucking food item in America that's sold for public consumption has a label listing all nutritional information.

I will say this as an American - we are collectively chock-full of excuses.
We have all the advantages of a great and stable system, but have a tendency to toss them out the door.

When I wanted to take a mule ride down the grand canyon, I was told that the person, gear and everything had to be under 200 pounds. I was about what I am now 210. Fuck 'em I walked my ass down into the grand canyon. I walked my ass out and saved a bunch of money and was the better for the walk. If the government can do weight limits, why not the public?

Well then, laziness is nothing but the person's own doing, isn't it? This is exactly what I am talking about. The notion that Assvir put forward, that America is some sort of health free zone where people are forced to pick up pizas and hotdogs against their willis clearly false.

More excuse making. This is all because you need an FDA approved label to tell you that a plate sized cheese and bacon burger has more calories than a small chocolate bar. Come on, you can still use a large helping of common sense for most things. Is it really a strech to work out the a pizza slice is going to put more lard on your backside than a grilled chicken breast? Are people really that dumb and uneducated? "Waaaaaaah, we need to be told 'cos were stooooooopid"!!!!

    Yep.

Although, Tasvir's not completely wrong...there are some food deserts in some low-economic areas, where there may not be a supermarket for nearly three miles (which is quite a bit away if one doesn't have a car). But since I've come back to California, I've seen a few places similar to Mother's Nutrition Center --including one not too far from one of the neighborhoods I lived in as a child where nearly everyone receives government assistance. And even better is that all the items in said place are WIC approved, so there's no excuse for people to not at least make an attempt to eat healthy.

Whole Foods? That's the only source of fresh produce? Please, that's an absurd statement, especially from a city dweller like you.

Not only does Whole Foods specialise in organic foods as opposed to just fresh produce, but they aren't the only bloody shops in America! Are you telling me that chains like Walmart and Aldi do not sell fresh chicke or fish, or fruit, salad and vegetables? That there are also no small shops that sell them? I don't buy. Hell, I've seen the food for sale myself, It's more excuse making.

Plus, even if it's hard to buy fresh produce for those living in the middle of nowhere (which, again, I'm not buying) there is still the calorie argument. You eat three pizza slices you'll put on more weight than eating one. You eat breakfast cereal with sweets or chocolate in it you'll take in more calories than plain cornflakes. Come onm it's not fucking rocket science.

I'm still seeing nothing but excuse making frankly.

Hell, you don't even NEED to shop organic to have a healthy, balanced meal. Growing up, most of the vegetables I had on my plate at dinner were canned or frozen, but they were still vegetables. And much of the sugar my brother and I got came from the juices we had to go with our lunch. To this day, my brother doesn't snack much on sugary stuff, because his long-term memory kicked in right around the same time my mom got into her fitness kick and his first memories are of hearing her talk about diets and shit. But even before that, I can't say there anything in our diet that was extremely fattening.

The Whole Foods comment was only slightly flippant. There are neighorhoods where a gas station mini-mart is it for food, and the closest grocery stores is a few bus transfers away. I'm talking about people who can't afford a car and don't have two hours to get to a grocery store. The places where they can shop sell only the shit Tasvir described. Is it any wonder that people like Chad and Ted are so damn fat?

Even worse is when the closest grocery store a few bus transfers away KNOWS it is the closest/only grocery store.

One of the reasons Councilman Harrell is a Councilman is he and a non profit did a study of area grocery stores. Turns out the Safeways in the Rainier Valley (poorer area of the city) not only had the worst selection and smallest produce section, but the highest prices. Odd considering they are a chain and those stores had the cheapest leases.

MAJOR embarrassment. On the plus side it resulted in them renovating their MLK store and on Rainier (mine) moving to a completely new larger location. It's real nice! :D

    This.

But then, it's also a matter of how much you want it. My mom never had a car until I was eleven years old, but still made decent groceries and budgeted for a cab, because the bus system in my hometown was spotty at best back in the '90s. Either that, or my brother and I helped to carry the groceries and walked twenty minutes home.

But many people don't even know what to look for in shopping. They load up on hot dogs without realizing some of the fillers in there are linked to stomach cancer and buy juice and soda by the carton.

    Aw, dude.

Overall, WalMart produce is ass. Sometimes you can get lucky and they have a miracle shipment of something really fresh, but it's usually tired, ill-treated produce that is very close to passing the edible stage.

Their meat is okay, canned, packaged and frozen stuff you can get great deals, but do yourself a favor and buy produce elsewhere unless you are desperate.

And I guess we finally found the one thing liberals won't subsidize, imagine that. :marathon:
