This show is becoming pretty high concept. This latest episode did open up two additional lines of thought (at least for me):

    - what will a human do if essentially becoming a god and
    - what if machines start programming themselves?

The second one is a problem we'll face in our lifetimes. Well at least in mine.

I wonder if there will be a payoff for those high and mighty concepts. I'm guessing epic cliffhanger while they figure something out

So the blood sacrifice line. Was there some explanation for Ford using those exact words that I missed, or does this mean he's either privy to or indeed programmer of the original scene that used the phrase?

I would think upper management was completely mistaken about their worst nightmare, which was hosts killing guests. The truth is that hosts are killing upper management. That's got to be way worse from their perspective. :storm:

And maybe we need a robot cowboy smiley.

I think the writers said there was a five year story arc planned. So we won't be getting all the answers anytime soon.

I am wondering what sort of host Ford was building ? Maybe it was meant to replace someone.

Ford used those exact words because the corporate board lady used those exact words. In front of the host she was fucking in the bedroom when she and Theresa had their conversation. Ford was letting her know at that moment that there is nothing in the park that escapes his notice.

Given Theresa was given a demonstration of Ford's control of the hosts and a demonstration of how they hold on to data (such as the table and chair she sat in as a kid) in the previous episode and her knowledge that hosts do record their interactions with guests she should have shown some smarts and not talked in front of the sex doll.

She had a dumb moment. Just because something looks like it is off doesn't mean it is.

Anthony Hopkins was amazing in this episode. The menace really came out of him. Especially when he saw what was happening to Clementine and then Bernard. If you only watched this episode you knew someone was going to die at the end just based off his stare.

    You're not alone. ;)

I've seen a lot of people claim because Charollette made that comment that she is a host. Most everyone forgets there is a host there or they think off means off.

I believe it's been reported that the plotted out the entire story before production. Certainly Nolan's brother built a world in which he paid off every question to he's seen it be done and done will. I have confidence.

Yea, now that would be fun. But then, this show already has double the budget GoT has and it brings a lot less to the screen (in terms of shooting all over Europe and stuff). No doubt that's thanks to Ed Harris and Sir Anthony. Clarice Starling would be great but she's also guaranteed to break the bank

My worry is that Anthony Hopkins turns 79 in December and the show is reportedly plotted to go for five years. I don't see any way they could replace him or write his character out.

I read it was $10 million an episode, $100 million for the season.

ETA: GoT was at $6 to $8 million and episode but pushed close to $10 million for season 6. They keep costs down by hiring European actors and then killing them.

This is the most stunning piece of storytelling I've seen on TV. Any complaints of knowing where it's going simply don't exist. Yet the ride is awesome.

I'm going to need to binge watch this whole season, I've watched all the episode, but I'm still wondering what the fuck is going with a good part of the show. I get the Mauve story line, the Ed Harris is starting to pull together, Bernard somewhat. Ford... yeah, WTF? No more Clementine, that sucks, she's hot as hell.

That's great if you like stunning pieces of storytelling.

But we have Voyager fans here, and people who watched Enterprise in its entirety. How about some mundane crap about a stuck replicator, or for this show, a glitchy host printer? And how about an episode where our intrepid heroes go to settle a small land dispute between a pair of ranchers and discover a new deposit of tin and copper that can benefit both parties? How about an episode where they get lost on the way to a conference in a nearby city, break a wagon wheel, and have to spend the night by a fire, hoping another wagon comes along to rescue them (which it of course does)?

What is it with all these deep characters with deep backstories, complex motives, and complex plots? Just stick Scott Bakula in the black suit and let him figure out what's going on, with the help of his Enterprise crewmates.

I'm betting they take Mauve to see Bernard, and it will be a big payoff for all those other interviews we've watched him conduct.

I'm kind of curious where they're going with this, there are certainly some Judeo-Christian elements with Ford being God, and the cast down Arnold fomenting a revolution in his Heaven as a digital, whispering Satan. There's even Ford being effectively omniscient through the Hosts.

Ford is utterly amoral towards his creations, allowing all kinds of suffering and viewing himself as being benevolent by giving them another life free of the pain of the previous one.

I'm wondering if this less sci-fi, and more a mirroring of Christian views on why an omnipotent god allows cruelty, and leading up to something akin to a judgement day. Only it's 'God' who will be getting judged.

this week delivered a LOT of direction to the various threads that were somewhat confusing before. To me a show I was already loving stepped up to the next level in this episode, and I look forward to re-watching the whole season after next week.
