I'm not going to comment on whatever went on between you and your lady friend. But I will say I find it offensive when people unironically sing Born in the USA not realizing it's a protest song. Like, just sing Born to Run instead.
I certainly get that it's a song written with the intent to be critical of conditions in post-Vietnam working class America and not to celebrate them. However...if you look at it a little differently, it's a song about a person who celebrates being born in the U.S.A. despite the adversity he's faced. The upbeat nature of the music and the final line "I'm a cool rockin' daddy in the U.S.A." help enable that (mis)interpretation. Related tangent: Robert Frost's classic poem "The Road Not Taken" doesn't have the meaning most people read into its famous last lines ("Two roads diverged in a wood and I--I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference"). That line is supposed to be ironic, as the poem itself is something of a critique of the idea of choice having so large a role in our lot in life. However, I think the poem is more interesting if it's misinterpreted.
Usually people who don't actually realise what it means and that it actually describes them, or those who can't spell "better"
So, what would happen if Kavanaugh were ever to be prosecuted for this, or for something else? What is the point, practically or legally where he would be forced to give up his seat on the supreme court?
It would be pretty hard to do his job whilst sat on a prison wing I should think, surely the threshold would come prior to actually being sentenced?
I assume that - just wondering what the legal provision is for this. Does that scenario require him to resign?
He would have to be impeached, which is more political than legal. Impeachment and removal of a federal judge, including a Supreme Court justice, requires meeting a high political bar. Just as with presidents, a majority of the House must approve an indictment to impeach, and a two-thirds supermajority of the US Senate must convict for the judge or justice to lose their office. source: vox
"I feel like I can’t express any opinion on anything because if I come on what liberals consider the wrong side, I’m basically a racist, bigot, misogynist, or the devil incarnate." - FF A lot of that going around I hear. If it's any consolation just consider the source
With the left these days it's one size fits all Personally, I have no problem telling the speech police to go fuck themselves. At least then they have something to REALLY be offended by.
If he had a a secure computer/internet connection he could "work at home" to a degree, even if his home was a cell. Set up teleconferencing and a live camera in the senate and the cell. Damn I might have came up with a great idea - thanks folks for the inspiration!
Why not? In fact it could be a way of developing skills and making the prison population more productive by having them use all their hard earned legal experience and saving the taxpayer a lot of money paying for the courts.
Imagine what you would have said to her if you hadn't known she'd been assaulted in the past. That's all #metoo really is--getting other women to realize they aren't alone, and men to realize that they're supremely lucky to have been born into the privilege of not fearing sexual assault on a regular basis.
Actually, in this country today, it's very difficult to even get to court, let alone convict, based on an unsubstantiated and uncorroborated accusation.
There is no "if" in this matter. No prosecutor goes into a courtroom and brings charges against Kavanaugh based on such a lack of evidence. Ford's story falls apart the moment you look at it and unlike the kid gloves Ford faced in the Senate the defense lawyers would have no problem ripping through Ford's fake story. You think the jury is going to accept Ford's word that the therapist made a mistake in the notes not once but twice and the jury won't be allowed to see the notes or see the therapist on the stand? Ford's 2nd Door thing will be exposed as a lie. The therapy session took place four years after the 2nd door, she rents that part of the house out which means she has no access to the 2nd door anyway as it technically belongs to the renter, and she has a beach house with only one door. Ford's fear of flying will be exposed as a lie. They will dig up all her previous flights. Ford's previous boyfriend will be on the stand testifying about the polygraph test. Ford can't remember the year, or the house or a whole bunch of other things. Hell a prosecutor could get in trouble for bringing such a case to the court. Kavanaugh could sue for false arrest and malicious prosecution. As to the other part of your question if Kavanaugh faced actual charges with actual evidence he'd either resign from SCOTUS or the House and Senate would impeach and then convict him resulting in his removal.
Fuck off with your partisan ranting. It's a hypothetical question, which assumes that sufficient evidence would exist. I made no claim that the testimony given to date was sufficient.
Yes, there are rapists under every rock and hiding behind every corner, just like racists, right? All women should be believed without question or evidence and any man who does so is a misogynist and probably a rapist, right? This is like the left's version of McCarthyism.
