You know, I actually found these quite a while back from a link on Ex-Astris-Scientia. Never knew you were the one to made them. Small world.
None of these are on Ex-Astris - I just drew them! He's probably swiping them from the TBBS thread as we speak, though. He probably has some of my previous ones up, but I've never drawn anything specifically for that site.
As in on his links page. Back in 2004 or so. Before I'd even found TrekBBS, actually. Bernd would never steal anything from anyone, anyway.
Ah! Oh, I wouldn't say steal, but he takes starship drawings from all over the net and puts them up on his site. Or he creates his own based on others' designs. I know some of my earlier drawings are up there. It's okay, I'm proud to be included. It's a resource.
Forbin, you should gather all this together and publish it. There are Star Trek fans out there who would eat this up.
Ah. Well, carry on then. (Seriously, I didn't realize you were doing this for anything other than your own personal gratification.)
Actually, that IS the only reason. The most I'll do when it's done is make a PDF available on my website for free. All the Trek Tech luminaries - Sternbach, Okuda, Probert, Aridas Sofia - say the Trek Tech publishing market is dried up. Nobody wants to publish tech manuals any more. if they won't publish them about actual canon ships, they sure ain't gonna publish my made-up ones! I think Jackill soldiers on because he self-publishes. And that sounds like too much work.
Ebook from Amazon or Barnes Noble. You could make a few pennies, and its nice to see your stuff out there even if you aren't making a major profit on it. I'm designing a space combat board game for play at conventions. I know I'm not going to make any money of it, but its what I do for fun. I'm planning on creating a new system, writing up the universe, publishing some fiction, and if my 3D modelling skills are sufficient selling some minis. We'll see how far I get! LOL. But really appreciate your work, you are an amazing artist.
Thanks much! But I know there are a billion people better with Photoshop than I'll ever be with Corel. I've seen photoreal paintings done in Photoshop. I haven't got a chance of doing something like that. I'm just a "competent draftsman" at heart.
The Gundam model I built it out of was called a "Val-Walo." I have no freaking clue why, not being into Gundams. So I figured I'd substitute a hyphen for the dash and claim it was a Vulcan word. Then I had a brain siezure and decided to name the whole class that way, and just thought up silly shit starting with "val" - Valerie Bertinelli, Val Coll (someone I went to school with), Valor (lost!), Valen (from Bab 5), Value (Lost!), Valentine...
USS PREBLE: TNG-era destroyer. The model was a spare-parts bash using 1/2500 E-D parts with a 1/1400 E-D engine. Model: http://www.inpayne.com/models/kitbash/trekpage_preble.html
I think the Kirov looks a lot better than the Dominion, personally. Edit: And naturally as soon as I say that, the picture no longer works.
Yeah, my provider has been fine for weeks, I just spent 3 hours reorganizing my model pages, and when I upload and go to check - the provider is down for the first time in weeks. GAH!!!
Anyhoo, yeah, I did the Dominion first in the classic dreadnought pattern, then decided to see if I could improve on it and sleekify it.
Only 6 or 7 months between getting up the energy to do one of these. Based on my latest bash: http://www.inpayne.com/models/kitbash/trekpage_bucephalus.html And the Tech Manual pages:
Is it just me or does this not look like an absolutely logical bit of a "mega" sized ship for long term, deep space exploration in the ST universe? Think about it, tons of cargo space. you could go for ever and ever and ever.
