He just sent me this over email. It's all the specs on the laptop he's gonna get me for college.

He's been going crazy looking at every last add-on and putting it together so it would be "perfect" and today he called me twice about checking my email and looking at what would be on the laptop.
I don't understand most of it.

    Good?

Yup, that would be a decent desktop machine, never mind a laptop. :)

Wow...that's a pretty powerful laptop. You could do some serious gaming on that machine.

Not to mention that graphics card would not only be acceptable for gaming, but also for 3D rendering.

what college are you going to by the way?

I only got my own computer during my 3rd of college. U of M had great computer labs in almost every building so I never saw the need.

If you don't care about gaming, then pretty much any laptop you buy will probably suit you well. Just make sure you get some useful applications...

Some colleges will even provide software startup discs. When I started dental school I was given a CD with XP, Symantec Antivirus, and Office. Check with the campus IT department for stuff you can get free.

Oh and beware of downloading music on college networks!

Good laptop. Do you play games or do a lot of graphics? If not, it's too powerful for you, and we should trade. :D

Excellent machine! If you find you're a heavy user, you might want to consider a spare battery to double [-]your gaming fun[/-] the time you can spend on homework when not near a powersource. But that's probably just me talking about my own fear that batteries in laptops die fast.. and I don't even have a laptop.

    Among other things. :bergman:

Maybe it's just me, but personally, I like The Sims 1 way better than Sims 2. It's just the randomness of it all and the fact that the A.I. was more primitive that made the characters screw up and do some really unusual things.

The Sims 2 just became a parody of itself. A perfect example of this was the little green diamond on top of everyone's head. How many in-jokes did the Sims 2 have regarding this??? It's suppose to show which character you were in control of, but they end up playing with it.

And also, the Sims in Sims 2 seem and behave too real, so it ends up looking like a very bad cartoon or a shitty reality show. Again, I blame the too-realistic A.I. It was the Sim in Sims 1 who couldn't get out of the bathroom because everyone was in the way, then collapsed of exhaustion in the puddle of pee that made it funny. It was the Sim that stood by the fire panicing, then getting burned and dying that made it hilarious. The Sims 2 is just not the same.

The Sims 2 is cool because I'm doing the Legacy Challenge. Basically, I'm trying to reach 10 generations without cheating.
It was easy at first, until 3rd Generation Mr. Krabs (yes, that's my Sim's name) decided to have 6 kids - and have all 6 get married. So he had 6 of 'em. 6.
So now I have 6 other houses. 5 are married and one was a joined union (it just happened. The game is damned weird in that Sims fall in love for apparently no reason sometimes. I asked, "How much money do you make?" and they fell in love :wtf:).

Anyway, so those 6 kids had kids, and those 6 kids had cousins who also had kids.
At this point, I've got 10 different houses to deal with and about 7 kids to send to college. :scary:

It's still possible to kill them by putting them in torture chambers (rooms with nothing but a sink). It's funny because they take sponge baths outta the sink when they get really dirty.
What's not funny is when their little faces turn to the purest agony and misery and I HAVE to get them out of there.
I dunno. Something about their little faces crying out to me in pain just...

I even forgot where I was going in this. Oh yes. The game is repetitive, still, and it's also now fucking hard to kill off the Sims you don't like because they look so real.

Also, making money is too easy. By generation 2, I had a mansion. :wtf:
    The Sims need taxes!

She wants a laptop she can play games with. Somehow, I doubt she'd be content with TuxRacer.

Man, I could barely get IE to work, and that was with a tutorial, additional "helper" files to set it up in a way an actual human being could understand, and years upon years of working in-depth with computers.

    I wouldn't wish Wine upon anyone. ;)

Hope the Vista software for your optical drive will run on XP. I'm not really anticipating any problems there, but just test DVD playback and burning promptly to ensure that everything works, OK?
