Whoever this "whistleblower" is, he's almost certainly a TK troll laughing his ass off at getting Storm to attempt criminal extortion in search of his identity. Most successful troll ever, methinks.

I can't imagine that Elwood will take kindly to a "friend" appointing himself vigilante protector of Elwood's reputation, using Elwood's bbs to attempt extortion as part of a half-assed sting operation he engaged in in his self-appointed role as protector of Elwood's reputation, accusing a poster of being a "traitor" on the basis of incredibly flimsy evidence accruing from his half-assed and criminal non-investigation, and wasting vast amounts of Elwood's and his staff's time with the resulting mess.

Hopefully the administration here will finally realize that Storm is their friend in much the way he's my friend--i.e. not at all. Then they might be willing and able to reign him in, even if he doesn't get himself banned.

Liet keeps trying to use his big boy voice, but it just doesn't seem to be working.

That was then. This is now. So if Storm was to have been banned now back then, it would have been then, not now.

It's easy to understand how Liet could be against Storm one minute, and for him the next. He doesn't really care who started what or what it is, he just cares that this drama detracts from people calling him a knob gobbler.

Nothing. He should be banned. He's the most destructive poster we've ever had, and I can't really see how any of the other bans in place can be justified if Storm doesn't join them. Threatening the livelihood of another member of the board is a very serious offense, even if the threat was "only" intended to out DW--at which it's certainly failed miserably. Trying to coerce behavior to which you have no legal or moral entitlement by threatening someone's livelihood, whether or not there's an intent to carry out that threat, is utterly despicable and almost certainly illegal behavior. What matters is that it was intended that the threat be believed. Storm's shown no remorse, no acknowledgment whatsoever that his behavior was wrong. He's subhuman filth, and he acts as though that's a badge of honor. He's dangerous to have around, and if he pulls stunts like this again he may well end up getting the board in legal trouble if someone a little more thin-skinned than gul is the victim.

Storm is a thoroughly despicable waste of oxygen, and should be banned. But I recognize that there will be pressure not to ban him, and that it may be the judgment of Elwood that banning him is more trouble than it's worth. If Storm's not banned, which he damn well should be, then I hope that you, Elwood, and Tamar recognize that he is not your friend. Friends don't do what Storm did. They don't glory in creating trouble for you, they don't draw you into morally and legally questionable quagmires, they don't force you to waste your time because of their inability to admit their mistakes. I hope that you see this and that you don't coddle him even if you don't ban him, because I don't want to think less of you.

If any of you still think of Storm as your friend after this incident, then you deserve every bit as much scorn as does Storm. I'm not going to pretend that rallying behind a morally barren egomaniac with no self control like Storm is not a major character flaw. On the other hand, there are a lot of things I like about this place, and though there's a strong impulse to say "screw it" when people mystifyingly ignore Storm's outlandishly repulsive and antisocial behavior, there are still a lot of good and interesting people here.

Your still playing this chump line? Every time you trot it out, you look even more pathetic. You were safest when this was confined to the helpdesk, because not a lot of people read those threads.

Storm foolishly believed or pretended to believe, that I have been posting some rather non-revealing revelations at Troll Kingdom under the name Disgruntled Wordforger. On the face, it is a ridiculous accusation, since I post plenty of disgruntlement here and there under my own name.

Be that as it may, he took it upon himself to punish me by threatening to use real life information against me, threatening, among other things, to expose my on-line habits to my employer. This is not a serious threat in terms of damage. My job status is secure. But it is a despicable thing to even pretend to carry out.

It appeared this morning that he had the sense to let things rest, but now he's stirring the pot again, probably because he is worried about what elwood's investigation will turn up. The details of all of this are available in the HD thread closings thread.

As for Storm... My friendship is with the man behind the persona and is in no way impacted by bullshit on a BBS. And even if he raped a chicken, yodelling out one of actormike's scripts while wearing a carrot-top wig, I'd still seek out his respect before yours.
