I'm assuming that by "divulge" you mean "Leak". Divulging things isn't the same as dissent. Divulging things is a flat out betrayal of Elwood's trust in a person. We're all free to disagree with him, but to fuck him over by betraying his trust in any given one of us? Are you somehow under the impression that that should for some reason be acceptable to *anyone*?
MarkB made a comment over at TK that I must be getting attacked by the other staff for daring to criticise some decisions, when that isn't the case. I feel perfectly safe disagreeing with some things. Honesty, and recognising that disagreeing with a rule doesn't give me the right to violate it are the most important things.
I'm not sure what bothers me more -- the seemingly neverending question over policy or the 'move along, nothing to see here' responses when dissatisfaction is raised. The voices saying something is wrong at WF are louder than I've ever heard before and the lump under the carpet is looking pretty big. I don't want the board to fracture. I like it here, and most of the people. I don't see the point in pondering over who the anonymous WFs are at TK (and no, I haven't an account over there full stop, so don't look at me). That they're there's an obvious indication of unrest from well integrated members. They can't all be getting jollies from 'trolling'. Elwood, IMHO the power balance is wrong at WF. That's all I can think... and you either look at why the wheel is coming loose or you lose a chunk of the member load you're carrying. To do nothing will just perpetuate this on and on and on and on and... ah, you get the point.
You know, I like it here just fine and for the life of me I can't see what the Hell this hooraw is all about. If you don't like it here leave. Don't make a fuss, don't go drama queen on everyone, just leave. There are a gazillion boards out there and if you don't like this one, you can surely find one that you will like. I've taken my own advice by disappearing for months at a time when there was nothing here I felt was worth my time. Few people noticed, no one commented and the board went on just fine without me. Summerteeth with all due respect, I don't get your comment at all. Are there unhappy posters here? No doubt. Does that mean something is wrong with the place? Not in my opinion. With all the diverse viewpoints and personalities we have here ranging for Uncle Albert at one end to J.Allen at the other, conflicts and disagreements are only to be expected. Why someone is going to all this trouble to piss and moan about this place just leaves me flumoxicated.
Which part? What I said was I like it here -- more and more people aren't happy with how things are managed -- a fracture will occur -- WF loses some of it's mix -- I don't want that to happen. The place is edging on bias of personalities and social group. I'm relatively middle-of-the-road and I can see it happening Listen to what I think or don't, but to me there's a problem. It needs fixing.
People keep on saying that, and while it is a semi-valid point, it's also irrelevant in this case. The whole reason Wordforge exists is because there were a bunch of us who posted on another board that enjoyed debating and talking with each other, but didn't like the admin there and the restrictions it put on our discussions. There are plenty of other boards on the internet, however they have the disadvantage in this case of not being filled with Wordforgers.
There is discussion, disagreement and even some dissent in the Shelter. But isn't that a good thing? You people who whine and cry about "Eliteforge" and "circling the wagons" have absolutely no idea how wrong you are. There is none of that in the Shelter that I can see and there is plenty of good healthy discussion, even bordering on Red Room style flaming at times. So saith an Observer.
It's called 'good management' to deal with disagreements (semi-)privately. Whenever you see some conflict between managers out in the open in the real world it's a surefire sign of a bad manager. Fighting in the open makes for bad authority. Doesn't mean that there are no disagreements. They are just nor dragged out for the amusement of all.
At the same time, I liked it when at the start you would chastise mods in public, it definitely prevents anyone from being able to say there is a seperate set of rules for mods.
People do grow older and more experienced you know. Back then, I worked in advertising. I had never seen anything else. We had a very open style of dealing with conflicts, meaning discussing them openly. There was no actual chastizing going on, just discussion. In all my time there, there were no real fuckups. Also, we were only 25 people. Changed quite fast when I started at a 'real' company. Unthinkable if they'd use the same technique of dealing with things. Some do, tho, like my editor-in-chief as you can read in my BR thread. Nobody takes the man seriously; we just work for him because he's the boss and has the power to fire people. But the best work it ain't. Treating people like people would go a long way there.
Hmm. A thread questioning the identity of a "whistle-blower". Quick Chief O'Hara, to the roof, flash the Mewa-Signal!
Doesn't neccesarily mean they grow to be better though. What I meant was that I do think that way worked better at preventing any "OMG ELITEFORGE!!1!" type drama outbursts.
There will always be drama. Always. If there isn't any, some will be manufactured. That is simply how some people enjoy spending their internet time.
I didn't say you started shitstorms. I said you showed up when there is already a shitstorm in progress.
Since I showed up again before it actually started, what's you're point? Outside of the one on your head that is.
