Criticising all Muslims for the actions of followers of one of its radical forms is like telling Bulldog or Bock off for the actions of the Vatican. It just immediately invalidates your opinion and stops any attention of valid issues you could have raised.

Exactly - radical Islam (radical anything) is fucked up. All I know is the west African Muslims
(black people for the geography deficient) are no problem.
Matter-of-fact have any Muslim extremists been of west African origin?

My girlfriends former housemate (and who now lives with her parents) is an Afghan refugee who fled because his father was kidnapped and he was threatened with abduction himself. There are many middle eastern Muslims who are victims as well.

When it comes to African Muslims, I don't have much personal experience.

No, the gods really, really aren't the same. If there were a real, existing god involved and the different believers were just quibbling over which details were actually true then yeah, it would all be the same god. But the god of the old testament, god of the new testament, and god of the koran are, in fact, fictional characters. They are defined by the details the believers fight over. The jewish god did not have a son and both the jewish god and the christian god did not have a prophet mohammed. The jewish god does not condemn people to hell and concentrates on rewards in this life; the christian god has a heaven that is no fun at all rather than a heaven that consists of a giant orgy.

You might say that the christian and muslim gods are non-canonical fanfic of the jewish god, but in fact, it really doesn't even make sense to talk about the "jewish god," the "christian god," or the "muslim god" in the first place. The differing sects that fall under the same generic label have definitively different views of what their god is. The god of the mormons is not the god of the catholics, and neither of them is the god of the baptists. Even different believers within the same sect have definitively irreconcilable views of what their god is.

 

I'm pretty sure that @gul was pointing out that according to the Koran, the god of the three large monotheistic religions is one and the same; and so its verses should be read with that assumption in mind.

Wanting them dead and wanting to deny them martyrdom are not mutually exclusive.
