Women had it tough during Midevel Times.. I was just sitting here reading this article about how back during midevel times, cities would fall under siege by Barbarians and mauraders, that would raid and plunder everything in their path. So, to defend themselves, these cities started building walls around themselves to keep out unwanted intruders. Women during these times were rarely used in combat, and in general didnt pose any real threat to anyone. So women were more or less allowed to travel freely in and out of these cities without question. Barbarian raiders soon took notice of this, and began to dress like women to get past the guards and get within the city walls. Once inside would drop their female garments and began killing everyone in sight. So..to prevent this from happening, the guards started checking everyone that wanted access to the city (including the women). In order to make sure they actually were women, they were forced to drop their pants to the guards and show their unprotected crotch to them, and if they refused, they would not be allowed to enter... Can you imaging using these tactics at Todays Nightclubs to keep Gangbangers out?
To be honest for people living in those times I think a bit of nudity was the least of their problems.
They probably had to scrape off a few layers of dirt and crotch crickets just to be sure of the proper gender.
Well, given the lack of hygiene at the time you could probably grab all the pubes together, use them as a wick and light them on fire, and get a good half hour of candle light and heat, more than enough to kill off any wildlife, but I doubt they went that far to get through the crickets.
Yeah, woman weren't much use in combat until the advent of the gun. Back then, it was pretty much all upper body strength. Even a longbow or crossbow required that. And of course in the early days you wanted the woman folk at home to rebuild the population lost in the wars. You lose 50% of your men, it didn't mean you had to lose 50% of the next generation. Lose 50% of your women, your population started shrinking.
