I wouldn't exactly call it great. I promised my daughter I'd get her the new X box when it came out and I'm definitely getting the ps4. Looks like I'm already dropping a G just on me and my daughter alone this Christmas.

Rumor has it that the PS4 will come in 2 skus. $429 & $529. I figure I'll drop about $700-800 on it at launch. The $529 PS4, an extra controller and 1-2 games. The Xbox will have to wait for a while.

Of course if Xbox wows me, I'll get that system and the PS4 will wait.

A lot is riding on Xbox right now. I have a lot invested in their system right now such as all the games I bought on the XBLA (a lot!) As well as the years I've spent with my username, the achievements. However useless those last couple are, I've spent a lot of time with my profile and everything associated with it. A lot of my "Allegiance" rides on that.

After saying and thinking about all that, it's amazing that Sony has intrigued me at all, and I'm pretty interested. It looks like they're more open to smaller development studios, and are just making it easier in general to develop. Jumping through the hoops seemed to be a big problem last time around for developers, as we continually heard from people such as Phil Fish.

I can't wait for more details.

Yeah... I predict that most people will remain loyal to their platform for next gen. XBL & PSN will act like Trojan horses. I'm a level 15 trophy hunter in PSN and I barely have 6,000 gamer score in XBL.

But if Xbox does something spectacular, I could get it first and the PS4 can wait until I get some more $$$.

No backwards compatibility is really bumming me out though. Part of the appeal of owning a PS4 for me would have been playing all the PS3 and PS2 games that I missed out on.

I'm keeping an open mind, though.

That's the primary reason why I refused to buy a PS3 and won't buy a PS4. I'll continue to stick with PC gaming.

I do most of my gaming on a PC now, too, but it's not like I can play tokyo jungle or uncharted on it.

If Microsoft manages to make the next console backwards compatible they will score a major plus over Sony, people being able to migrate their libraries across.

I hope they do. I would be very depressed if I couldn't go back and play Jet Set Radio Future, Jade Empire and GTA San Andreas on my 360 every so often. My library of 360 games is larger than my XBox1 library and my 360 is still a loud launch model, so please MS, let the next XBox be backwards compatible too.

My copy of Magna Carta for the PS2 just sits and collects dust because I won't buy another PS2 for just one game. While I might buy another 360 since my library is larger, I'd rather not have to.

I feel like Microsoft has the upper hand on this front because their new console will likely be a lot more similar to work on than the PS3 to PS4 transition. Microsoft doesn't have some weird Cell processor to emulate.

Exactly!! The exotic architecture if the PS3 is what made the backwards compatibility for PS4 too expensive.

The truth is that of the launch PS3's that were BC, the feature was only used 5% of the time. I plan to hold in to my PS3 when I buy my PS4, but as far as I'm concerned, old games are... Well... Old games. Showe the new hotness!!

My favorite games are old games! And I guess I'm a special case, but I think there's enough people like me, especially considering the xbox sold better than the PS3 (I at least recall hearing that somewhere. All my friends had xboxes whereas few of them had PS3s.)

It'd be nice to go back and play all the games I missed.

It was kind of a big deal for the XBox since Halo 2 could run on the 360 at launch, so they were able to carry over quite a loyal following of online gamers. XBox Live was crucial to the 360's success.

There are just some games that are so good, they deserve a good replaying every now and then. Personal taste may vary, but I'd compare it to re-reading a favorite book.

I wonder if their next console will have as many red rings as their previous one. M$ should just outsource their manufacturing to Samsung. Then at least people will know they be getting good hardware.

You know what would go a long way in selling me on the new Xbox?

A fixed d-pad, and an easy (free) way too hook the wireless controller up to the PC. To do it with 360 controllers, you needed to buy some 25 dollar thing and eventually they stopped selling it, I think.

Not gonna lie, i went out an bought a used PS2 just to replay Kingdom Hearts and KH2. I switched to Microsoft after not all PS3s were backwards compatible. I'll switch again to PC if both companies end up fucking it up this time (or get a Wii and booze).

Why didn't you buy a PS3 when they were backwards compatible?

Because, if I recall correctly, that was one skew and only for a year or so? My friend had to go and get a refurbished unit to get the backwards compatibility.

I was poor when they came out. Plus, I tend to stay away from new consoles for 6-12 months for the launch bugs.

Correct. If memory serves, when the PS3 debuted, there were two versions. 20GB and 40GB. The initial run of the 40GB version was the one that was backwards compatible. But, again, if memory serves, it was produced for six months or less.

Yup. I waited about a year to get my PS3 (I only wanted if for FFXIII), and by then they'd phased out BC and added more memory.

    About damn time.

Though if they call it the 720, I'm calling this generation a failure in console names. For some reason I don't mind PS4, but I really don't like the idea of calling the Next Xbox 720. I'd rather call it the Durango.

Just a few weeks away from E3. I think they had to retool and repackage their reveal based in what Sony did.

I'm also hearing rumors of a second PS4 event. At this point, they should just do it at E3.

There's been a lot of news going around about it being always online. Did you guys see the tweets about it? The guy who said he didn't care about people in places with crappy internet?

In any case, the guy got fired over it, but that basically confirms it, right?
