The thing that I don't get is that everyone wants to play games at the same time. The best DRM is fantastic games
Holy shit!! Sony certainly has the upper hand this gen. Maybe the DRM was all Microsoft all along trying to insert themselves into the used game market loop. They had to realize that this would be a death blow to them if Sony didn't follw suit. I think Microsoft showed more and better games yesterday, but most of them were third party and will be on PS4 anyway. Sony still outright owns 12 different game studios, so they will have plenty if exclusives.
Feature by feature comparison between the PS4 and XBox One. As it stands, the PS4 comes out ahead in most areas.
Yeah, unless the PS4 doesn't have external USB storage for some strange reason, it either matches every tech spec the Xbone has or else beats it. All for $100 less and DRM-free.
Well, the motion stuff isn't packaged in for Sony, but the rest of that all checks out. Also, did you see this? I completely missed it during all the no-DRM/online connection hype. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/...ion-plus-subscription-for-online-multiplayer/ They snuck it right in there. I was looking forward to not needing a subscription!
Boo! Well, at least it's basically the same price as Xbox Live. I also lament the decline of 2-4 player same-screen multiplayer games.
At least PS+ is better value than Gold, though Microsoft is starting to make a better case with the free games. Those services will reach parity soon enough. Maybe it'll make the online better on PS4 better eventually? Funny how they just slipped that in there. I didn't find out until this morning.
That they select. I'm betting it'll be the shitty titles nobody wants. The only thing that would make me consider getting an XBox One* is if they release the projector unit that would basically be a Holodeck .05. *Not that I'm planning on getting a PS4, either. I'm not a serious gamer, I've got an XBox 360 because there's a couple of games that looked interesting to me, if there's interesting games for either console, I'll consider plunking down the coin for one of the systems, but if the systems are pretty much the same as they're described now, and the games are available for both, I'll be going for the PS4.
Sony selects their games too. It's not like they're giving out Day 1 releases for free. AC2 is along the lines of what PS+ would probably give.
I sat down last night and watched the xBox One and and PS4 reveal videos. The xBox One one was not as bad as I expected...I guess because the things everyone hated weren't part of the actual presentation. But I will agree that the PS4 E3 presentation seriously took MS out behind the woodshed and beat their ass. I'm an MS fanboy and don't bother with the internet's passtime of "hate them because they are MS. So I'll be getting both, I've already reserved and paid in full for them. Besides, The things everyone hates really don't affect me, my consoles are always connected and I don't trade in used games. I do have one question... Can I say "xBox 'play PS4'" I'm not really joking when I say that, many people will have more than one console whether their second is a PS4 or a Wii U. If you can't then you are still going to have to switch inputs which is something that having an xBox is supposed to allow you to not have to do. Of course I know they will not allow the two to actually work together.
You sound like a victim of propaganda. The "Day One" edition is the same price as the regular...And yes
Is that not real? I saw an image that looked real enough. Just checked it out, definitely still $500 with all that stuff Also, making a mistake/asking a question isn't "buying into the propaganda"
It wasn't meant as an insult, I could have just as well said a "victim of disinformation". Fanboys in both camps are as bad as political idiots spreading disinformation and unverified claims about their opponents. It's actually annoying to try to find accurate info about both consoles that has not been twisted.
I have to say that with Playstation Plus and a 320 GB HDD, I really have no need for external storage on my PS3. PSN keeps track of my transaction history. So when my HDD gets close to full, I have no problem deleting games I not playing to make room for new games I'm downloading. The PSN transaction list has a list of everything I have purchased rights to from day one. I can re-download at anytime.
I don't think so. Live gave away AC2 and Halo 3. Both games are like 4-5 years old. Just this month on Plus, you can get Uncharted 3 (2011), Spec Ops: The Line (2012), along with some truly great indie titles like Journey (2012) and Closure (2012). IMHO, Playstation Plus wins again.
With my PS3, I like to put movies or TV shows I've downloaded on a USB stick and hook it up to the PS3. I can stream over my network, but it's usually a bit stuttery. Also, I have an earlier model of the PS3 with a much smaller hard drive.
I loved my xbox while in Japan for that. I could download my American shows and stream them to my xbox and watch on my TV, Luckily my place was LAN wired so no stuttering issues.
I have a question regarding the 8 cores of these consoles. The $ony one is a AMD processor, while the M$ one is a "Custom Microsoft" processor. Are these remotely the same? I know Sony went with the AMD this time because it's easier to develop games for, as opposed to the Cell processor in their PS3, which from what I hear, gave developers a hard time.
Germany's not exactly thrilled. "When Germany calls your product a 'twisted nightmare,' you might want to rethink things." -- Lewis Black
M$ backpedals again. And you'll no longer need X Box Gold to watch HuluPlus and Netflix on your X Box.
First of all...M$ stopped being witty about 10 years ago. Well early last gen PS3 was beating xBox...but by the end I think most people agree xBox came out the overall winner (at least in the US). But yeah, right now PS4 is punching them in the face repeatedly...correction, they are punching themselves in the face repeatedly. MS could still turn things around, but they need to start listening to what people want and stop telling people what they want.
Granted. EDIT: You are right. I just noticed you said "at least in the US". Right on the money. Microsoft has not comported themselves well at all this time around.
And while people might bash them for making these changes, but I think it's a good thing they're listening and trying to turn things around.
Quite frankly, I think this evens the playing field. Now that the hardware's the same price, it all comes down to the software. Most importantly, the console exclusives. Right now, I'd have to say Microsoft has the advantage in that with Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Forza 5 and Titanfall. The PS4 has Killzone, Knack and inFAMOUS Second Son. I'm really looking forward to Microsoft's Quantum Break. My gut is telling me that Microsoft is going to come hard at E3 with a ton of exclusives and perks. I hope Sony has a few compelling things to show, but I don't expect to see Uncharted 4 until at least holiday 2015 since they lost so much talent at Naughty Dog recently. The Order 1886 looks good, but I'm not convinced it's for me yet. E3 is going to be awesome this year. I think this may be enough to push Microsoft back into competition.
Looking at that list, I like Microsoft's lineup way better, but all the indie stuff on PSN like Sportsfriends and a bunch of other games is a really good showing. I also can't wait for E3.
