I’m pretty sure people were saying that they wouldn’t cede the election. I know Bill Maher said something to this effect. I distinctly remember @Lanzman saying like “goodbye America, it was a good run” or something like that. A lot of talking heads did the same. Turns out democracy worked just as it has been since the founding of this country.

I don’t belong to any party, but it’s not the only win for the Republicans, Nancy Pelosi is gone, more republicans came out than democrats, Ron DeSantis had a huge win, Florida went completely red, the Democrats barely held on to the senate, republicans still won the house and 2/3 of senate Democrats are up in 2024. I wouldn’t spike the football just yet.

I see the problem - a Socratic dialogue is where one participant PRETENDS to be ignorant in order to show up the other party, who presents themselves as an expert.

Examine issues critically from a point of empathy, to see where people are coming from with their concerns, understanding that they will most likely present it in a clumsy and/or confrontational way, to see what you can take from that to form your opinions in conjunction with supporting information. For example: Abortion and trying to understand why there's such a visceral reaction against SCOTUS killing RvW, and seeing why the half of the population directly affected by that decision are voicing their opinions on it.
