    I keep getting this message....

    Some posts won't send.

Some threads won't load properly. For instance, I can't access the fifth page of my planets thread, and the full thread on here talking about board problems wouldn't load enough to allow me to post in it.

I reckon the board's about to go boom.

I'm getting that message quite often, too, along with the various other issues people have pointed out recently:

    • Inability to get to the last page of some threads without bumping
    • Having to hit the rep button multiple times before it responds
    • Pages loading to posts that are several posts beyond the last one I read

I have taken to saving my posts in a word-processor program, if they are at all complicated and important (some will say that latter qualification is never true...), because I never know how the board is going to respond. Sometimes I have to try a half dozen times before I can get it to work. The best trick I have found is to close WF completely, go to some other site, then come back to the site anew. But even that doesn't always allow me to get where I want. Too often, a page loads partway, then I have to hit "refresh" to get it to try again. And then, often enough, it gives me a message that translates as "connection reset" (my version of Windows is in French).

Sometimes I get so frustrated with [-]wasting my time here[/-] participating in the fascinating discussions here that I actually devote myself for hours at a time to my work. What kind of a way is that to live?

Maybe a server reset will do the trick, but I don't have the power to do that, and it's strictly a technical admin thing.

I'm getting these same errors also.

Just had a post that wouldn't let me preview, wouldn't submit, wouldn't let me fix once it did submit...then, once the fix finally went through, smooth sailing, it's like the board just didn't "like", that first draft..
    Did everything to fight it.

And now I had to bump the thread twice to get it to even show up.

I frequently click on a thread and get only a partial screen; the listing of posts breaks off and the lower part of the user interface doesn't show.

Are we storing a persons pattern in the logfile instead of in the transporter buffer where it belongs? ;)

We have to, otherwise the pattern will get duplicated in the ionosphere, creating two apostles.

Nobody wants that, not even apostle.

It's been running slow in the last 20 minutes or so. I haven't seen any error messages as others described. The problems I'm seeing is that it will either partially load a page or else stall out and fail to load a page at all.

Occasionally, I'll get a 'No Data Received' response. Seems like the server is having trouble sending out data, in my non-expert opinion.

"This is a big fuckin' deal!"

Seriously, though a 19 petabyte log file is like a sheet of notebook paper filled with text that's 1000 kilometers in length. It's beyond the absurd for what it is.

^ so is that remedial? Or is it just a case of " it is how it is"?

A system log would not be anywhere near that big.
    Look at it this way:

1 text character is approximately equal to one byte. Now, 1 petabyte = 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes. That's one quadrillion characters. So the log file would be 19,000,000,000,000,000 characters long. Now, whether or not the actual log file of WF is 19 petabytes long, or not (most assuredly not. I think apostle was taking the piss), such a log file would be unwieldy in the extreme, and it would take a massive storage server just to hold that single text file.

TL;DR = The log file would be the length of roughly 8,000,000,000 standard sized novels. So it's unlikely for such a thing to exist as a log file on a moderate to small sized message board, even if the log file were running constantly from day one.

The highest I've ever seen the log file, historically, is around 4GB.

I don't have access to board files, so I was, of course, joking.

Just pruned almost 5200 users with 0 posts in the waiting for email confirmation group. These are the spammers (and a few unfortunate legit users, but we have no way to contact them) who were dumb enough not to use a real email address.

Just took out another ~6250. Hopefully this will help performance and stability a bit.
