And the AR-15 platform becomes even more ubiquitous.

Now Mossberg's offering 'em: Mossberg Modern Rifles

I'm especially happy to see this phenomenon because of the "in common use" language (protecting such firearms from bans) in the Heller decision. My hope is that the AR will soon be in such common use, that California's ban on them (which is pretty ineffective, anyway) will fall.

Now if Mossberg offered a 12-ga shotgun that looked like an AR-15... WOO!!

My only worry is that we're headed for an AR15 bubble. Who will bail us out if that happens?'

I like the factory quad rail. Mine was an add-on.

I can't wait to see if the movie is faithful to the book that it's based on.

ATI has just what you're talking about...

It's essentially a Remington 1100 converted to magazine feed and dressed in AR clothing.

My first response would be that it would make one hell of a slug gun for LEO's whose Agencies won't allow Rifles or Carbines. But, the more I think about it, the more I think, from a LE perspective, that it's a solution in search of a problem. I honestly think the days of the ubiquitous Police Scattergun are almost over. The Rifle/Carbine is here to stay. It may just take a while for everyone to get on board.

Looks like one hell of a zombie gun. Semi-auto and only a five-round magazine, so it's legal for me to buy, right?

    Right? :pwease:

Nothing but a shotgun will take the cake for suspect intimidation during the heat of the moment. There's just something about screwing the front bead/post sight of a shotgun into someone's ear that will make them think twice, or thrice, about what their next move should be.

But, with that said, what can a shotgun do that a carbine can't? Be devastating at close range? I have a 30 round magazine and I'm more than willing to use it.

Shotgun wounds are much uglier than bullet holes.

Unless you're using that special ammo, of course. :techman:

A shotgun DOES have that certain intimidation factor, beyond even what a combat rifle has. I'm not sure why; a 5.56mm will drop you just as quickly and surely as a 12 gauge.

I guess it's that big gaping maw in the muzzle. You know there's going to be a lot of lead coming out of there. And, at close range, it's all going into you...

A great little gun. Only problem is that since they are imported, they have to be sportingized. It actually takes a little bit of machining to put the pistol grip (trigger has to be moved forward) back on it. My buddy was able to do it himself, but I don't have the tools so will have to wait till I get back out there to do mine. Plus you can only use 922r (US made) parts for your conversion kit and they aren't that cheap for the good stuff (Tromix).

But even with the sporting stock and trigger and full length barrel, they still look pretty cool:

Under $900 for a decent, factory AR? That doesn't seem overpriced to me.

Actually, Mossberg makes some good stuff...my nephew has one of the 930 tactical models and it's a very solid 12 gauge autoloader...

Where did you see the price? I must have missed that but if it is $900 MSRP then that's a good deal because you can find it usually cheaper then the MSRP.

I stand corrected. For now. :cookie:

And don't get me wrong Mossberg makes some good stuff but sometimes I just look at firearms and laugh because we are seriously getting gouged on a lot of stuff......

For a 1:9 twist? And it accepts MOST magazines? :garamet: Street price better be no more than $650 -$700.

    Pass

Yeah I'm being a snob but for $100 to $200 more you can get a whole lot more in terms of components, quality, & reliability and know that you can use ANY magazine.

Most people shoot 55 grain bullets, so 1:9 isn't a handicap IMHO. Even with the more gradual twist, accuracy will still be decent (if not optimal) with heavier bullets at reasonable distances (200 yards).

And I'm sure the rifle will take any STANAG or compatible magazine; the "most" qualifier probably isn't a significant one.

I'd have to see one for myself, but these seem a reasonably good deal for someone who wants an off-the-shelf, no frills, get-'er-done AR.

I haven't shot an AR-15 style weapon (being in my case an M-16) since 2003. :santa_angry: This makes me sad. I'd like to get the chance to "qualify" again.
I'd bet a paycheck I could still get well above the minimum!

You are right on that however I still feel that these manufacturers are gypping consumers. What pisses me off is the cost difference between a 1:7 twist barrel made out of 4150 CMV steel Vs. a 1:9 twist barrel made out of 4140 steel is minor. Put the right barrel on there and charge $20 more. Then have happy customers that can shoot something more than a 69gr round. Fer christs sake is your corporate reputation worth that little? When I see little short cuts like this it makes me wonder what other shortcuts they took. Is that really a 5.56 chamber? If I take a chamber reamer to it will it come out clean or will I get metal shavings out the wazoo? Sadly I'll bet your next paycheck that it is the latter and not the former. Gas key staked properly or not? It's these little things that would add about $100 to $200 in value to the weapon that would make it a metric ass ton of a better product.
