Y'all might recall my thread awhile back where I mentioned I bought a new carbine AR-15 clone (thanks to a loophole in California law).

Well, my nephew (who's actually about my age, in case you're wondering) was so taken with mine, he went and got his own.

But to add insult to injury, he tricked his out...

This will not stand. Where's my gub'mint check?!?

    Needs a PEQ2.

Get rid of the Gangsta Grip and just use the magazine well.

    @ "Gangsta Grip"

I actually saw a forward grip the other day that was large enough to contain a spare magazine...

Note sure what I'm going to do. I'm pretty set on an EOTech model, probably the 557.

I put the grip on my S&W and to be honest I like it. Until I had tried it I pooh-poohed the idea. But the S&W comes with Troy rails and I said what the hell. So I bought an el cheapo UTG fore grip and have to say I like the balance and stability it gives me.

Ok Paladin..we need some stats on the rifle. Who makes the rails for instance? Is it me or is that an A1 upper (AKA pencil barrel) with the 1:12 twist rate? The flashlight a surefire? What mount is he using for it? Im not seeing a backup iron sight (BUIS) does he have on yet? Sweet looking though

Speaking of which BRD has struck me again. I'm now selling NIB S&W M&P 15X. I want to pick up a (get ready for this) Charles Daly LE AR. Yeah thats right Charles Daly. Their defense division is putting on an AR that I would put right below a Colt 6920, LMT, and Noveske, but higher than the S&W M&P series, Saber Defense, ADS (small firm out of AZ), and armalite on the scale of being closest to MILSPEC. For the prices its going for it is a fantastic bargin IMO.

The light's a Surefire G-2, and the lower at least looks to be a CMMG. Top notch. The rails look kinda like surefires as well.

    Kinda similar to my setup.

They come free with the purchase of a Fobus Holster.

Being LE, I get the choice between the dual mag carrier and the single mag carrier/cuff pouch.

    You couldn't carry 2 mags and a mag/cuff shindig?

If I'm gonna carry that much gear, I'm just going to suit up and wear the 2 1/4" Sam Brown and not bother with concealment.

According to the FBI, the number of shots fired, on average, in a lethal force encounter involving only handguns is three. If I can't solve my problem with 17 rounds of .45ACP, I need to be using a rifle or shotgun anyways.

He probably doesn't share your obsession with painting all your gun gear blue, though.

Heh, yeah, I can imagine that. Saturday on the drills I fired 42 rounds traversing 9 lanes left to right, and then back on the movement drills.

On the combat course, with a buttload of "assailants", I think I fire 13 rounds.

If you catch this, doesn't The Army send you away to Black Clap Island? :salute:

I think the next Pirates of The Carribean involves this subject!

I believe it's a CMMG lower/Rock River upper, don't know about twist, etc. Don't know about the flashlight (Shoes seems certain it's a Surefire). The rails are two piece, I forget which brand (Midwest?). He doesn't have the backup sight on there yet, but I believe he has one.

Traversing lanes? Sounds more like SRM than IMT.

No Low Crawl? High Crawl? Combat Rolls? 3-5 Second Rushs?

Seriously, Ana, do you think ol' Cartman here would do something that was worthwhile and exercised something other than his nose-picker? :jayzus:

My apologies. I was under the impression that unless specifically stated otherwise, the forum was governed by Red Room Rules (ie, Blue and Green Room)

In that case, my original post should read:

I quite agree, Ana, it does seem like a course that features little more than just shooting expected targets from a near or complete stationary position would be a waste of time.

Apostle, this course you took seems more like a way to make money off of wannabe weekend warriors wanting to feel like they've accomplished something, more than it does a good use of money. I mean, I could set up a rudimentary "shoot at stationary and a few moving targets in a semi-realistic fashion" in my backyard.

You could do that, I suppose. But you wouldn't learn tactics like slicing the pie, wouldn't be timed on your draw speed with two Swat Team dudes yelling in your ear, wouldn't learn common mistakes from people who do this daily, and would miss out on the fun.

P.S. - they offer more advanced courses, which I will take, with guns modified to shoot "markers." They're not paintball guns, and you go against other people training as you are, as well as more SWAT guys.

    Your assessment is inaccurate.

It's how the local SWAT teams train and practice.

The predictable stationary targets are only so that you learn the fundimentals, such as point shooting, shooting while moving, engaging multiple targets, etc. During the combat courses at the end of the class, you put it all together...and you don't necessarily know what targets will be where.

In the classes Apostle's talking about, Levels I and II are basic classes that, as I said, teach the fundimentals. Level III adds high stress situations. Being pelted with tennis balls, being screamed at, having to wrestle with the instructors right before engaging targets...

After that, it's force on force with the simunitions Apostle was talking about.

It's a far cry from Special Forces training, but hardly worthless....and fun as hell to boot.

I was hoping to take the Tactical Carbine class this weekend, but The Warden put the kibosh on that idea. :(
