WAB, the Xbox 360 did not have the "entire month of November" last year to sell it's 325,902 units. It had eight days. It was released on the 22nd, you know.

That means that the Xbox 360 in it's debut sold over 1000 more units per day than the Wii did in IT'S debut.

I stand corrected. The information I had for the Xbox360 must have been incorrect.

However, I stand by my comments that the Wii kicks the shit out of the competition. It is truly a revolutionary gaming system compared with the PS3 and Xbox360.

I think the hardcore gamers will go for the 360/Wii combination.

Wii is a fun system, no doubt about it. Especially with multiplayer games. But it has yet to prove that it can translate that to RPGs, 1st person shooters, fighting games, etc.

Right now the 360 is probably the system to have. It's got everything that the PS3 has plus the massive XBox Live, Halo 3, and a much more affordable price.

The Wii is great for parties though. Not sure if it is so good for online gaming or more serious play sessions.

I've tried both the gamecube and the Wii versions of Zelda and I think I prefer the GC control scheme. Sword attacks are a little more accurate... not sure if I want to sit down for hours snapping my wrists around in circles. Graphically they are about the same. Fishing seems more fun on Wii though.

I've actually heard from retailiers I've called to, while looking to buy a Wii, that a PS3 is easier to get right now than the Wii.

The XBox 360 was sold out for many months after it was released.

The XBox is still doing the best right now. They'll have 10million units installed by the end of the year, easily. What's happening right now is that if people can't find a PS3 or Wii, they buy a 360. Not everyone, but a pretty big chunk. That and a lot of Wii's have been bought by a lot of 360 owners as companion systems.

The Wii will probably not be the main system everyone buys.

Problem with the Wii is, yes it is a lot of fun to play, but people get tired or their wrists start hurting something fierce after playing it for a little while. So those longing for many hour gaming sessions (ie hardcore gamers) will stick to a controller, instead of motion sensors.

For me, an RTS or MMO is best on a PC. All other games I'd rather play on a console.

I don't like sitting in front of a monitor for FPS, Racing, Sports, RPG, 3rd person or Action/Adventure games.

    Racing? you mean cars?
You can only, ever, play proper racing sims on a pc with an analogue force feedback wheel and split axis pedals. In fact, no good racing sim has ever been released for a console as far as i know.
Whats the difference in a monitor and a TV screen, except the TV is much much lower resolution with slower refresh rates?

There are great wheels released for consoles. That come with pedals and a force feedback wheel. Not just chinsey crap wheels, either.

I don't like to only play racing 'sims'. Burnout is one of the best racing games to come to any system. However, there are plenty of great racing sims for the console. Forza motorsports series, Project Gotham Racing series, Colin McRae Rally and the new CMcRae Dirt Racing series coming very soon, on PS there is also Gran Turismo. Plus a host of other great ones.

And no, a PC doesn't always have better resolution. My 32" 720p LCD has a refresh rate to match almost any LCD monitor and is at 1366x768 resolution. Better than a lot of people who still run 17" CRTs at 1024x768.

In my opinion, PS3 has already lost, and XBox 360 isn't that impressive. It's been a year, and the only great game to rave about is Gears of War.

For a nice easy 'game' its very good. No-where near a sim though. The physics is 1-point (as opposed to 4) and mostly canned. Slip angle is canned, tire-road surface physics is canned. Same goes for colin mcrea, nice to pick up and play if you like to jump in and be the best driver in the world instantly, but crap as a simulation of what its like to drive a racing car (or anyother car for that matter)

    What?

I guess you missed all the buzz/praise/accolades that GRAW and Oblivion got too.

What has the Wii got that's so great? A gimmicky (but fun) controller?

Oblivion is available for PC though. And I'm not saying Wii is great, it just came out, but I'm very unimpressed by the XBOX 360.

You know, by the time there's enough good games out to make the PS3 worth owning, it'll be time to phase it out to make room for PS4.

FPS better on a console as opposed to a pc with mouse/keyboard? Are you mad?

It's still far too early to say what console will end up with the killer aps, look at GTA. While the earlier versions were on the generation before last, it wasn't until GTA3 on the ps2 that it really become the juggernaut that it is.

Yes I have carpal tunnel, so I can't use a standard mouse. Which is why I prefer FPS on a console. I never said better, I said I'd rather.

Console FPS are getting much better with aiming schemes, shoulder buttons making you spin 180 and such. Controllers (at least 360) are a lot more accurate than they once were. 3rd person or 2nd person (over the shoulder), I'd rather play on a console too.

I'd still have to agree mouse/keyboard is probably superior, but it's not an option for me anymore.

I've yet to try a PS3, but I've yet to hear anything that makes me want to. Between the XBox 360 and the Wii... well, the Wii is different, and that's decidedly a good thing. The virtual console and direct gamecube compatibility make the deal for me. Soon as SSB Brawl is out, I'll be getting one.

That could take a while. Even if there's enough games out there, not many people will rush out to by a 500 dollar game console. I wouldn't.

i'm not big into games, but the wii has interested me and a few others i know who are also not big into games.

i've also overheard parents more interested in getting their kids a wii rather than a PX or xbox, simply because they've seen it makes their kids more active than parking their arses in front of a screen.

if thats replicated across the world, the wii will eventually win simply due to having a bigger market.

The Wii will not beat out either the PS3 or 360, well, maybe the PS3. But the Wii, as I've said, will be a companion console. Hardcore gamers and most casual gamers, will still buy a next gen graphics console, once the novelty of the Wii has run it's course. I'm not saying that it won't be successful, it will and I quite enjoy the one I got my family for christmas, but it's still not going to be the main console in most households.

hehe.. besides, I had fun watching the HD version of Star Trek TOS over XBox Live on my 360 this weekend. ^^.

It also doesn't matter how many were sold out here or there, the 360 has still had better overall sales.

There is another reason the 360 will end up doing better than the Wii, which is established online gameplay and other services offered via XBox Live. Neither Nintendo nor Sony offer a service to rival XBL. Not only are pretty graphics the top priority for the majority of gamers anymore, so is easy to access online play.

Nintendo will also need to corner the mature gaming market if they wish to win this generation's war. Which they've already admitted they don't see themselves as the main console of this generation. Yes, they will have some mature games, but nothing like the other two consoles. FPS and GTA style games will still be the popular types of games with this generation and Nintendo isn't quite up to that challenge. A lot of Nintendos sold, also went to current 360 (to a lesser degree PS3) owners as a companion console.

Nintendo also doesn't have enough 3rd party developers lined up to keep it going and pumping out quality titles. This could change, but the console is still a very hard sell to developers.

We can't be sure of anything at least until the middle of next year, although a lot of analysts still predict MS as the winner of this round, even if only by a slight margin.

Nintendo is working on it, they are releasing their first M rated game soon. The basic story is to survive while the world ends around you. There are also rumors of Wii getting some GTA games. Already the Wii is getting better third party support than the Gamecube did and PS3 seems to be losing theirs like rats fleeing from a sinking ship, mainly heading over to 360. Wii may not be the number console, but it sure wan't be the last. There is a $600 piece of shit that tried to ripoff a controller and online play system, then slapped in a blue ray player.

For all the rave reviews for GRAW... no one plays it. I know lots of people that bought that game and nobody plays it long. I thought that game was going to be fucking awesome but it turned out to be fucking boring.

Gears of War strikes me like Half Life 2... amazing story campaign but once you finish... not much left to do.

Haven't played oblivion so I can't comment on that.

Wii has Zelda: TP which is pretty awesome. Start of the game seemed kinda sub-par but once you get rolling it seems on level with Ocarina of Time to me. Also has Excite Truck which for me is the perfect game to play when you have 5-10 spare minutes to kill time. New consoles are missing arcade-style fun for the most part, and Excite Truck is amazing for this.

Wii Sports is THE ultimate game to play with others.

At christmas over 15 people played wii sports at my house and everyone, including the spectators were having a good time. Let's also note that only about 5 of those 15 were people who usually play video games.

Other than that though, there isn't really a very huge library.

^ My family and I were watching TV and a Nintendo Wii commercial comes on. My mom looks over to me and says "that looks like fun. I'd love one of those", and I nearly dropped the remote. She doesn't really like video games, but the idea that she can exercise a little bit and play something like Wii Sports (the bowling game caught her attention), makes her want one. She was excited about the prospect of me buying one within the next year. Now, considering she's a diabetic, overweight and unable to walk long distances, I can see this console as a way for her to get some exercise and have fun at the same time.

That, and the Wii has genuinely piqued my interest. I would rather have one over a 360 or PS3.

Exactly. guiltygear talks about needing to pick up mature gamers, but the Wii will pick up mature gamers - hell, even my parents thought it looked like fun, and they prohibited me from having a console when I was a kid.

I said the mature gaming market, meaning M-rated games. The games which sell mostly to the coveted 18-35 year old range.

It's great that grandma and grandpa want a whack at the Wii, too. While that is a small market to sink fangs into, it isn't the largest market, nor the market which sells the most consoles/games.

It's a party machine, through and through. It just won't be the #1 console.

We have a Wii, it's a lot of fun. Yes you can get 'exercise' with it.. but you can also sit on your couch and the motion sensors will pick up small movements as well. It is a great companion console, but it'll never replace my main console for serious gaming.

But now that Nintendo has seen what a giant hit it's controllers have been, what's to stop them from jumping back into the serious gaming market with a PS3-level powered machine using their kick-ass motion controllers?
